I'm in central CT. Drive down here and I'll build 'em on the spot for the price of a cheap meal!

Oh, so very true! He built me a Rohloff rear wheel with a Velocity Cliffhanger rim that has proven to be rock solid and perfect for one of my bikes. His "character" certainly shines through. So much so, that I made the 2 hour drive from mid coast Maine just so I'd get to meet and talk with him in person, along with checking out his shop. Let's just say that Trek or Specialized won't be taking him over any time soon. PS. Stay away from any topic that might involve a conspiracy theory.

If you can't find what you want locally, give a shout out to OP on this site. he can get you any kind of rim you want, and probably offer some suggestions you haven't thought about. At a very reasonable cost.

I believe Justin Spinelli (Luxe) relo'd to Southern NH since crafts-people are being priced out of Boston. My Firefly came with Luxe wheels ~six years ago and just now -- even with the for-sh** roads in Westchester -- they need a little truing. My experience has been that they are very well-built and strong.

I've had great wheels from November Cycles in Newport, RI. They're up against supply chain issues like everyone else but build stellar wheels.

Pretty sure Luxe has been in Nashua, NH or thereabouts for 10-15 years now.
I used to see him riding around when I lived in Nashua, NH and I left Nashua 12 years ago. Never spoke to him or managed to be riding in the same direction but I'd regularly see him go by the other way. It is odd there is no address listed on the website. Wheelbuilders seem to be more scarce than you'd expect around Boston. I've had bad enough luck the last 10 years I'd probably try Luxe. There have been a bunch of instances with shops around the area where they said they could handle something and the wheel started degrading relatively quickly in a way it shouldn't have, and it has made me biased towards factory wheels. I think a bunch of the shops can do it but then they don't do a good job getting the tension even and just right around the wheel. Last edited by benb; 08-15-2022 at 08:48 AM. |

Mr. Spinellii moved to TN to be the wheelbuilder for the Lemond brand.
I’m sure he’d still be glad to lace your wheels, but it won’t be a local pickup/dropoff. |

Unless you have a better recommendation? I have some already and they seem really nice. Decently wide and look pretty strong for going on a cross bike. Oh and I am fine with curmudgeonly and conspiracy theories. Just what I want does not fit in the rules. |

I'm in MA and if I needed wheels built/re-laced I'd bite the $ bullet and use either of the Peters, White or Chisholm. Both have built wheels for me that have been exceptional. And both are kinda cranky but in a good way

Scorpion in Dartmouth is excellent. I have a set of CX wheels that get the s$$t beat out of them and they still roll true.
also maple wheels https://ridemaple.com/ I have two tubeless sets (CX and MTB) and they are bombproof. |
