I'm pretty sure Van Nichols has a strong link to Airborne. Some of the top folks at Airborne started Van Nichols after Airborne went under, I think.

Interesting to see that there were such hybrids. I imagine that anyone wanting titanium had a use for it such as mtb, cc, touring, or road riding. That and people for whom money is no issue.

Hi, thank you very much for the input on some Ti Hy's. I've never ridden a titanium bike but I know that I like the idea of no rusting or paint chips (assuming unpainted). I presume the ride is similar to steel.

As has been hinted, hybrid bikes and touring bikes are very close in geometry. Typically, hybrids have longer top tubes because they're sized for more stand over room like an MTB, but with bigger wheels. So a smaller frame is used that needs more reach to fit.
If you can find a touring frame in titanium, it will work as a hybrid but you may need a longer stem.
