I know they get a ton of love here and likely rightfully so. But his headtubes seem to be quite longer than most. Just curious.

Looks better than a thousand spacers. Stiffer too. Think of it as a dropped top tube rather than a long head tube.

That makes sense. My Meivici is like that. Slammed -17 stem. Just wondered what the reasoning was behind it.

The idea is not that the head tube is extended, rather the top tube is dropped to torsionally stiffen the front triangle.

If you compare the seat tube length to top tube, typically squarish on traditional, non-sloping frames, you'll find that the top tubes are longer by 1cm.

I think the drop is also greater on the larger bikes since they tend to have more twist given same tube diameters. <- although I haven't confirmed this. I ride a 54 Peg and the head tube doesn't extend as far as on this Love #3.

Having ridden a Respo for six months now, I don't care what the headtube looks like. The bike is a killer ride. Dario knows how to put tubes together.

Don’t slam a stem to achieve an aesthetic. Only slam one when there’s no further down to go.

Draw the picture in your mind’s eye.

The contact points are points in space. The lines between are often compromises, and slamming a stem on a high head tube is a huge rigidity compromise.

The stem and head tube are a means to an end, not the end itself. The point in space is the end.

I don't buy this. I had a 60cm Marcelo that had a 240mm headtube. How many 60cm fames have a 240mm headtube, dropped toptube or not? I took care of it with a hacksaw, and a facing tool. I chopped it down to 185mm, and never flinched.

And in other news, Dr. Porsche put that damned engine in the back. Doesn’t that man know how to design a car?

Taller headtube is why a lot of folks say to size down on a peg and run a longer stem

I didn't slam my stem to achieve a look. It put it right where it should be for fit purposes. I would actually prefer to not have the -17 stem on it. Tried a different stem and it just didn't fit right.

I have a 60cm Big Leg Emma. It is 57cm c-c on the seat tube with a lot of head tube showing above the tt-ht joint. If it was 60 c-c, then the head tube would look more conventional. I don't know about his current geometry, but when I got this one, 57cm and larger had the dropped top tube.

Yeah, the '60' below really looks like a 56 or 57 triangle with a long head tube. As 'bigbill' just posted.

There was a period when this type of construction was in with Dario. You don't see much if it anymore.
