Thanks for posting, I'm going to read this. The Pasadena Cycleway was mentioned in an interesting book I recently read, The King and Queen of Malibu.

Cool bit of history. Article mentions that it followed along the route of what would soon be Arroyo Seco Parkway, which is now I’m pretty sure the 110 connecting LA downtown with Pasadena. I recently (I’m not local to there) drove along it thinking, “this must be a really old freeway because it’s pretty and has narrow lanes with a lot of curves and hills that shouldn’t really be taken at the 70 mph everyone is driving.” Turns out that’s the case as it was the first West Coast freeway.

I grew up cycling in Pasadena in the ’60’s and ’70’s. That would have been awesome to have an elevated bikeway to LA.
