Tough crowd. Just go to the shop and ask.
I'm going to say $50-100.

Don't get it?
I have 7 CK headsets and still have the tools.
Somebody has to install them.

buy tools on eBay and sell tools after headset install. still going to be out $20-30. If you decided to make your own headset press post photos.

Cuz they last forever or something? Gotta install them first, yes? OMG, when in the trenches, yes, as far out as it sounds, I did see CK headsets go south..

the press adapters for King headsets can run up to $160 (for a full set). not saying you *have* to use those, but it's what King recommends. if pressing cups into a Pegoretti, I'd prefer they be used.

I think the guy's post was he don't need no stinkin headset tools cuz my CK headset lasts forever..not about any special tools for CK HS'..just use a tool that doesn't push on the bearing, but pushes on the cup and it'll be fine.

I've installed hundreds of CK headsets with the park HS cup press..just don't use the inserts..

Shop originally built the bike(s). I've never had to replace a CK, so I just haven't bothered buying a HS tool. I'm sure they go bad. For something I would have used so rarely, it just isn't worth it to me.

Then why do I see so many bikes that have been hacked on by either other 'mechanics' or especially their owners that think they know what they're doing?

Wrenching on cars is easy comparatively because things go in one way or not at all. The hard part is getting to the parts that need replacing.

Unlike cars, bikes require more than just bolting parts in. It requires feel and skill. Some have it. Some don't.

$50 and a 6 pack of good beer. Better yet - buy a headset from the LBS and have them install it. Otherwise, buy a headset press and learn to do it yourself.

Even the initial cost is lower than the initial cost from a shop, just think about how much it will save you down the road. It's better just look up the procedure on YouTube and buy a bearing press to do the job yourself in my opinion.
Here's the difference in my opinion, the shop will do it once and right and no questions about it; DONE. I do almost all of my own work with only a few oddities and specialist items going to the shop. That's me, I'm a technician by trade.

I wouldn't recommend doing anything on a Peg for the first time for normal people.

No guarantees a shop won’t eff it up.

I was in the LBS the other day, and in their recycle bin there was a empty box from a PBR 12 pack.
