Fun way to spend a Sunday! I think the little one is too far gone and it’s missing on the rear brake. Not a big deal, the Merckx is a rider, doesn’t need to look pretty

What model/family are the brakes that have the thick arms like the monoplaner but aren't ie the caliper arms don't nest inside each other.
EDIT Got it, looks like Athena 1988-1992 http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.as...=117&AbsPos=50 Last edited by Nomadmax; 09-09-2019 at 05:25 AM. |

Amazon has the KoolStops...
A little grabby with anodized rims, but they do increase the braking power.

I think these inserts for the C-Record holder are correct for the Chorus Monoplaners.

True enough. Thankfully I took a bit more care when I ordered mine...

I've also seen some older Monoplaners with the square type as well, like second picture but still big cutout.

personally, love the Mono's...have them on 4 bikes here...great looking and they stop well enough...then again, I live in a fairly flat area...sorta similar to birth control and condoms: how much protection do you need?

Thanks OP. They show these on their web page, available in both compounds. Black is KS-CCB, Salmon is KS-CCSA

I had a setup like the pic in the OP. So pretty, but the levers-- yikes-- terrible ergonomics from the hoods. I only felt comfortable braking from the drops. And, yes, I had them installed correctly on the proper type of bar. The difference between that setup vs. dual pivots with modern levers was greater than rim vs. disc in my mind. Combined with Campy's early indexing attempts, I decided to leave it all in the past. Very dreamy to look at though.

I have an early set of chorus on one of my bikes, love them.

In the early 90's, I had two road bikes. A Raleigh 753 with 8S Dura Ace with downtube shifters, and a Mercian with 7 speed Athena and monoplaner brakes. It I only rode the Mercian, I'd never know the difference. The campy brakes did look nicer. My favorite Campy combo includes Mavic SSC brakes, I've got two sets.
