Riding in Waterbury VT recomndations?
I am wondering if anyone is in/near Waterbury VT?.
I'll be up there next weekend and would love some route recommendations, or even to join a ride. I ride Road, Gravel and MTB so open to all 3 |

I pulled over in Waterbury on my way to Killington this spring and I let Strava maps pick a route for me which did not disappoint. If you pay for Strava you can set distance and preferred road surface and it will generate a route based on public heat maps. In that area, any route is bound to be a good one.
Edit: I got Waterbury confused with Woodstock. everything else still stands. Last edited by blindwilly; 09-30-2022 at 02:56 PM. |

Interesting, Thank you.
I do indeed pay for Strava but didn't know that this feature existed. Does it generate a route that you can then put on your garmin for TBT directions? |

That i don't know. I mount my phone on my quad lock and reference the strava route whenever I'm unsure of where to turn etc.

A nice 31 mile ride from Waterbury: From Rte. 2 in Waterbury, cross the river on Winooski St. Take a Right on River Rd.,( becomes Duxbury Rd.) jog L onto Cochran Rd., follow it to Richmond. Check out the Round Church when you're there. Continue onto Huntington Rd. which will arc back East. Follow it to Dugway Road, take a sharp L. on Dugway and take that back to Duxbury/River Rd. back to Waterbury. Some paved and unpaved roads and a nice surprise awaits on Dugway Road. One of my favorite rides when in that area. Enjoy

You must have a carrier more suited to that area than me. I ride at least a couple times/year up in Vermont and much of the time I don't even have enough of a signal to get google maps to open etc. I would feel better about loading a route when in town like the OP asked, before you get too far afield. A lot of the medium-ish towns up there will have a signal for me, then it drops once I get out into the woods. I have Verizon fwiw.

The local bike chapter WATA runs a gravel grinder every year. You can look it up on their site, or here's the 50 mile option:
https://snippets.mapmycdn.com/routes/view/4352064166 Perry Hill is where you want to mountain bike in Waterbury. Pop the 8 miles over to Stowe and ride MTB there as well. Stowe has almost unlimited options, Pipeline, Kimmer, Shredder, Cheddar... Prepare for a smidge of butt puckering! Link to Stowe Trails: https://www.stowetrails.org If you do decide to ride any or all of these options, consider donating to WATA or the Stowe Trails Partnership. Really, really great organizations with lots of volunteers making this all happen! We really do have it pretty good in Vermont. Don't tell anyone! |

What you don't want to do is ride Route 100 up to Stowe. Way too much traffic, especially now. Head south, 100A for one, and 100. Check in with the Richmond Bike Shop (Gene Bell) or Fitwerx in Waitsfield for some ideas. App Gap is always memorable.

I looked at their website, looks like the taproom is closed for renovation...
Though it says they are open for retail, so I might check it out |

Thanks for the link to that ride, looks like fun.
What are the trail like at Perry Hill?. How techy are they, are they easy to navigate alone? Quote:

Perry Hill can be navigated alone. It's a good climb to start and once you get up to the trails, there's flowy burmed turns you can session until you're tired or you can go deeper in to the techy stuff. Rastaman will keep you on your toes

How Techy is Perry Hill, I like the idea that it seems really close to Town, I like a bit of tech but not the super gnarly tech.
