It is absolutely related as he had helped shape who you are today!

Dave, I’m really happy to have a little more of a picture of the namesake of my JKS. I regret that you lost him so early. His portrait expresses an easy smile of a dad who would have taken great pride in your approach to your work and your life. Nostalgia can hit everyone, every once in a while, especially with family that has passed from one’s life. Thanks for your reminisces. I ride my JKS with pride anyway, now a little more backstory.

Just an old shop photo that I found while looking for something else.

Here’s a bit of what I’ve been working on this past week. It’s a JK Special built for disc brakes, Thru axles, fenders and a front rack. I’ll get some overall shots taken once I have the rear fender fit.

A bit of stainless, disc brake, Thru axle road bike action.

A JK Special wrapped up and ready to have its front end painted - the rear is brushed stainless and will be left raw to give it that old school classic look.
When my painter Joe Bell finishes his work the frameset will ship off to Asia to its new home. dave ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Love to see the final finished product when JB is done. I don't recall ever seeing a Kirk half painted with the back section in brushed stainless.

I’m sure it will be beautiful (and practical as well- minmal concerns re chain slap etc). But, not sure I understand re the front end of the bike- is the whole frame stainless or no?

Really love all the thought and attention to detail that went into this one - a perfectly executed all-road/rando machine.. And I'm sure JB's touches are going to look great too.
I now have a good template for another Kirk I'd like in my garage ![]() |

This might come as a surprise to many but I do not love every single step of a frameset build....one that I really do enjoy is the fitting of the head badge to the soon to be painted frame. There’s just something about doing it and then standing back and seeing the finished look makes me smile. I think it’s akin to putting your watercolor painting in the perfect frame. Thanks to Jen Green for making the awesome cast badges.

And it begs the question, what is your least favorite step in the frame building process? |
