There's a secret method of getting that window clean...just between you and me...don't tell anyone...if you don't put silver in there you don't have to take it out later. Like I said...it's a secret.

Seriously - I make sure that the inside of the window is very crisp and clean when brazing it and then all that I need to do is use an abrasive wheel brush to shine it up and then it's time for a dark beer.

I just realised 30.6 dia seatposts are really rare - seems the most obvious supplier to this size of seatpost is Thomson and only limited to their Elite model w/ 0 setback.

I read that there was a fizik carbon post that was available for some time in the past but no longer now.

Dave, what do you recommend to customers these days?

You are correct....not many sources for a 30.6 post.

A bunch of years ago Darrell Llewellyn, Dario Pegoretti and I went to Fizik and asked them to make a run of 36.0 seat posts and they were happy to do it. Some time later they changed production facilities and their ability ot make 36.0 posts was gone.

We then went to WCR Composites in Italy and they made a run of 36.0 posts and while they were a bit on the beefy side they worked well. I may have one of two of those left.

At this point I think the only company currently making a 36.0 post is Thomson. It's a good post and works well...and you are correct that they make it only in a 0 offset. I typically have these on the shelf.

That crown is made by Long Shen Tange and it's available in steel or stainless. It's a very nice piece with a great fit to the blades and steerer and they have a good surface finish so that I don't have to spent hours getting it to look nice.

I have considered it. When they first became a thing I tried riding one and it was 'fine' but the sizing wasn't very good for me so it was hard to make a real judgement. So I threw together a crude prototype and rode that for a bit and I have to say it didn't do anything for me.

In essence one is replacing the seat post (carbon or aluminum) with a larger, stiffer and slightly heavier steel tube. I suppo9se this could be an advantage if the rider was big and heavy and needed the stiffest feeling while seated but i can't say I've ever come across that rider.

The integrated seat mast also gives less saddle height adjustment and requires a bigger box to ship them on.

For me there are more downsides than upsides. If I were making carbon bikes that tune might change as it's easier to control the OD of the seat tube than the ID so getting a good seat post fit would be a non-issue.

I hope that makes sense.

This mixed material (steel and stainless) frameset is about to drop into a box so that it can head to JB's for paint and then it will be off to Indonesia. It's really fun as the builder to know you have your work spread all around the globe.

This frame, unlike most I've built lately, is on the smaller side and that gives me a chance to have some fun and merge the head lugs together on the backside. It's fun but tricky to do well and this one can out nice and tidy.

Now to put on my shipping manager hat and get this thing into a box.

Would you use other lug styles or do you consider this your signature lugs.
I recall you had offered a one-off hand-cut/ modified lug-set during early covid days.

The vast majority of the lugged bikes I build incorporate these lugs.

I do offer custom lug cutting to those what want something unique. I don't get that many requests for custom cutting but I offer it gladly.

I just finished hanging the kit on this bike and I'm happy that it's staying local so that I don't need to get this big bike in a box...I hate stuffing big bikes into bike boxes.

This is an Onesto Fillet MRB and it is currently sitting on 32's but has plenty of room for 35's. Sram AXS 1x12, HED wheels, Velo Orange rim brakes, Zipp cockpit and Rene Herse tires. Should be fun on the mixed routes we have around Bozeman.

ATMO, I would say this bike, the build, and all that jazz is pretty much the quintessential bike. Nothing more needed. Nothing wasted. It's all in hand with this rig!

Out of curiosity with regards to lugs versus fillet brazing is there any difference in strength, added stiffness or durability?

My reason for asking is you are tops on my list for a 50th birthday present and considering all options.
