OT: Let's talk beds

I might need a new one. The one I have looks great, seems to be in fine shape, but is 15+ years old and I'm waking up stiff & sore every morning. It's a Kingsdown, traditional construction. Loved it. It's still comfortable to lie on. My first thought was just get a new one, but it looks like they've stopped making them.
A little research turns up almost everything is sold online & in a box.
I don't want memory foam. Tried it and didn't like it. I'm leery about buying a foam bed. Even if it has a100 day trial. Shipping one back has got to be a plain.
Two brands looked good. Avocado & Saatva (sp?).
Anyone have experience with either of these? Or have something they love?

My wife sleeps very hot and she likes a less firm mattress than I do. I looked for a mattress that would meet my wife's needs for sleeping cool and one that would meet my needs for a firm mattress. Flo Beds met our needs, it is a latex mattress with different firmness laters that can be matched to the preferences of each person. We have had one at least 15 years and it has worked well and we recently bought another for our guest room and so far the reviews from our visitors is that it is very comfortable. Worth a look, they are not inexpensive, but they are comfortable and durable.

We had a Hilton Sealy bed and thought it was phenomenal. On a recommendation we went and tested a Tuft N Needle “mint” (firmer and cooler) and we are 4 years in and still rave about how comfortable our bed is.

Total game changer (for us at least)

I just went through this. My advice buy something with 100% money back guarantee after few months. We went with big chain store and tested in store…the first bed we bought I loved, wife hated. Had 30 days to return for credit after restock fee. Next bed wife loved and I hated. Only one return allowed so are stuck with it. Bought a mattress topper for my half of bed and all good now but wish we just bought something we could have outright returned if we did not like. Apparently quick store test did not help us at all!

We purchased a new bed a little while ago and I did a bunch of research -- and ended up with an Avocado. We have been very happy with our purchase, so much so that we bought a 2nd one for our guest bedroom.

Let me know if you have any questions.

A lot of the online companies just want you to donate the mattress, and don’t accept physical returns. I have two friends who went through the return process, both donated their mattresses and received a full refund.

That being said we chose Nectar, simply because they offer a 365 day trial period. 4+ years in and we really like ours.

Well, yeah, but if I get a bunch of people who like saddle A, I know it's at least worth a good look.

Most of the ones I've seen have at least a 90 day test sleep. I could never tell in a store if it would work or not in 10 min with the sales person hovering over me. Got lucky last time, I think.

Did you go with the topper & base from them? If so, did the topper make a big difference in how firm it was? My current bed has a topper sewn in & while the bed is firm, it is very comfortable. Just not supporting me right, anymore. I'd never heard of Avocado until my neighbor suggested them. Good reviews, from what I've seen.

We've had a Select Comfort/Sleep Number bed for 25+ years (well, we are on our second...)
She selects her firmness....I select mine.
