OT - Car model comparison website?
A bit of a twist on the "what car should I buy?" paceline thread. I'm unexpectedly shopping for a new or new-used car (good timing, I know). Does anyone know of a comprehensive comparison website that includes both new and used models?
Ideally I'd like to be able to filter sort and filter across makes, models and years based on characteristics--for example, search for all models from the last 5 years that get more than 30 overall mpg and have more than 20 cu ft cargo volume. I've been using consumer reports' website, but their search filtering functions are pretty limited. Last edited by thew; 08-02-2021 at 03:59 PM. |

Haven't looked, just guessing, but maybe autotrader, cargurus or cars.com will have a function like that...
But...use the power of the hive...European, American or Asian? Budget? Driving habits? Need AWD? We can narrow the field down for you... I'll start. Audi (Sm)allroad. A4 based, wonderful driving machine, roof rack compatible, decent size...

You'll have to compromise a bit on the gas mileage (11 city, 17 highway) but it gets you to 60 mph in 3.4 secs, and has a top speed of 211 mph. With the rear seats down it has way more than 20 ft^3 of space. Or you can do what I did, and get a Subaru Impreza. Last edited by Louis; 08-02-2021 at 05:51 PM. |

I suspect 30mph ave with 20 cu-ft narrows the number of IC contenders down to less than a handful at most. Probably the Kia Soul is your best bet. Just keep in mind that any IC car getting 30mph ave is likely to be a wimp on acceleration. Maybe look into hybrid comparisons, they may be easier to find on-line.

I ended up using CarGurus.com, Cars.com and CarMax.com to get my search headed in the right direction. Neither have all the details you want, but combining the output from all three covered everything I needed to know.

Agreed, but it it handles somewhat well you can make up for that by having fun in the twisties.

Ha! Thanks for the sound and not so sound advice . I’m leaning towards a Prius—seems like they’re somewhat available and hit the best balance between milage, interior volume and cost (purchase and maintenance)—but I want to see if there’s something else I should be looking at. Those are really the only things I care about.

Have you considered a Fit? My sister loves hers.

Allroad is rated at 30 mpg highway and has a pretty large trunk. Just saying.

How about a used Chevy Bolt. It has more cargo space than the Prius with the seats folded down (although less if the rear seats are up) can be found used for cheap and has very low running costs. It handles better than the Prius and has more potential for smiles per miles.

Until @thew gives us some more details on his intended usage, and any specific biases, we are just guessing.
So, I ask, Sir: "Rim or disc?"

Online Consumers Report has a tool that will compare 5 new and used vehicles. MPG, reliability, trouble spots, customer satisfaction...etc. You do have to be a member.

Edmunds may have such a comparison function. It's been a few since I've been on their site. Might be worth a look.

I'll check out the bolt and fit. Also, Edmund's website. Thanks all for the suggestions!
