Current daily rider - 1982 Trek 730 with DA-7700, mavic M hoops on 600 hubs, 53/39 - 11-32 gearing (yes, using the 7700 RD), 28mm vittoria corsas

Shes perfect. One year younger than me!

Holy crap. I was just looking at my Evans bike with 7700 on it wishing it had a long cage RD to run a bigger rear cog. With it's light weight, cushy ride and mounts for three water bottles it'd be great with more gearing for the 22 mile long Cat 2 climb up Monte Cristo. Having enough water to get up and back is always an issue.

How did you do this? Any tricks and just real careful on the chain length and the b screw adjustment?

I mean the 39/32 combo is 1.22 gear ratio which is just a tad above the 30/25 combo currently on my one triple equipped bike at a ratio of 1.20. Heck pretty much the same even as the 34/28 combo on my compact equipped Y-Foil which is my other climbing bike.

My oldest is a Fuji Ace, I believe it is an 87. The frame and fork were passed on to me by a forum member. There is nothing special about the bike at all. It is now the first, and very likely only, bike paint job I will do. I have been on the bike my last 3 rides.

It is far from perfect, very plain looking in an old school way. It is quite heavy and has a very comfy ride. I am pleased with the way it came out, pretty basic with an eclectic mix of on hand components. DT shifters, set on gravity for now, and regular brake levers/calipers sure make the set up easier. I used Rust-O-Leum enamel and did it mostly with a foam type brush. I used a small, soft artists brush for hard to reach spots. It is a dark gray with mostly black stuff on it.

I am probably going to switch the wheels to a set of Open Pro with Shimano 600 hubs, but I need to do some work on them. I have an FSA Vero triple crank and a 9 speed cassette, but I cannot use the innermost cog, regardless of the size, due to the way the hanger threading was fixed. So I wind up with 8 speed 13-27 in back and 50/38/28 up front. I am going to try 48t big ring just because I have it. Same with an 8 speed indexed lever, might as well give it a go.

It has been good for me having this old, but decent frame set to mess around with. Not sure what will become of it, but for now, I am riding it and enjoying it's versatility. Today I was on pavement, gravel , cinder, crushed shell and dirt/sand. I have 32mm Bontrager R2 tires, maxed, with latex tubes and Bontrager Race light wheels.

A photo would be appreciated!
A 60s Frejus passed briefly through my hands in the early 1970s, it was an older friend's road racing bike in the early 60s. Great bikes!

Choke, how did your bike end up with the component mix it is wearing?

I wanted lower gears than the 52/49 and 14-22 that were on it when I purchased it. The TA crank is a 46/30 and is mated to a TA spindle in the original cups, the Campy Rally RD shifts an Atom 77 Compact 14-28 (ultra 6 spacing so the rear hub could stay at 120mm), the tubular wheelset has been replaced with high flange Campy hubs and TB14s built by Old Potatoe and modern pads/holders are mounted to the Universal brakes. The tires are 35mm Paselas. The original parts are safely stored away in case I ever want to put it back.

Here's how it looked when it came into my hands - https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=200732

I have a 1973 'Nago Super, but I don't have a good photo, so instead, here's my 1975 Masi GC, which is the better riding bike anyway.

I cant cross-chain big:big... i suspect if i added one more link, i could probably do big:big, but ive always been super cognizant o cross-chaining and never big:big anyway. In the small ring its obviously fine thru the whole cassette. Bscrew is all the way out or all the way in, cant remember which way is which off the top of my head- but its at the range limit

And actually i misspoke - its an 11-34!

Similar to my situation. The Jackson is wearing Shimano STI 3x10 gearing, and all of the 1972 Campy stuff is in a drawer, and the Campy high flange hub wheels are hanging up! The Cinelli bars and stem and Brooks Pro are also in the drawer.
