Thought exercise/dream board: Road frames

Time for the hypothetical that'll help inform the actual for me.

You've got up to $5k to spend on a frame. Material is your choice. Road frame only. Not all-road. Not groad. Road. Rim brakes (disc if you make a compelling argument). Queue time with builder doesn't matter as you've got stuff to ride in the interim. Mass production frames are also cool for the purposes of this.

What are you ordering and why?

I mean honestly....that Ritchey Road Logic (rim brake, plz) has always just looked awesome to me and if/when I build a straight laced road bike that's the frame I've always wanted.

i cannot narrow it down. but here is who i would choose from. all road bike. all rim brake. and i am not sure 5k for a frame is going to cut it for some on the list.

kirk steel
llewellyn steel
bishop steel
argonaut carbon
pursuit carbon
prova titanium

I'd get a Kirk, I'm pretty sure. Probably a terraplane. Almost certainly an Onesto. I'd stick with rim brakes. I'd ask Dave if he'd consider building me a flat-crown fork. He's done it in the past, so maybe he'd take a walk down memory lane?

My dream for my next road frame that I don't build myself would be a Yamaguchi. He has such a long history of building frames for racing, it would be fun to feel like a part of that. Plus, some of his more creative bikes are really impressive just from a pure fabrication perspective.

Richard Sachs. I haven’t regretted anything including the wait.

NO way in hell I pay $5k for a frame, unless it's some super rare former race bike that's been ridden to a TDF victory or similar that's sure to increase in value. Honestly, my head just exploded over the thought of a $5k frame...

I like my bikes slightly used and slightly rare, but in your scenario there are quite a few that fit that bill, almost all have already been mentioned. Maybe throw caletti into the mix.

I have a thing for the workmanship of Demon bicycles since I saw his work at NAHBS.
