OT: anyone have the Tesla powerwall?

One other item for folks to be aware of - it is reported that Powerwalls will stop accepting charge when the temp of the unit drops below 50f. It is to prevent comprising the unit. This means if you have a unit outside you might run into this. Tesla may have pushed a fix out by now but something to check into if you are purchasing one.

When the Powerwalls were set up, the issue of cold temps was considered carefully. We get very cold temps (well below 50f/10c ! ) in NW Vermont. So I found a conditioned space that would work, some awkward ‘closet’ space under a set of stairs. But the short answer is, yes, if you have really cold temps to consider, the Powerwalls want to be protected from that, by all accounts.

Public policy (the SGIP program) is designed to influence behavior. If it's good for you, go for it.

In our case, the federal credit and the quarterly state credits brought the payoff of our 12.75kWh system down to 6 years. Certainly helped justify the investment...

We are still working on our SGIP program with SCE, and hoping it all works out.
