OT: Sole inserts for running/walking/work

For the past few years I've been rockin' the New Balance 880 with a NB/Superfeet sport/running arch support insole. I'm an RN and so far these have pretty much been my go-to with more than satisfactory results. I replace about every 6 months and this time looking at a pair of Hoka or Mizunos. The cool kids wear the OnClouds, however, I find more success in a slightly wider width shoe, so I'm hesitant on them.

My question to the forum: What insoles have you used/prefer and what type of use do you base your experiences???

Have you tried super feet? I am wondering how they compare. I currently have super feet but I do love my Birkenstocks sandals.

Individual feet are so different....it's impossible to give advice. And...shoe builds are so different. Some have more built in arch support, etc. Some have none and rely on the insole.

New balance used to...and maybe still does....allow you to pick shoes based on the "last" style of shoe. My most recent New Balance was last "LS2". So to pick a new balance shoe....all I had to do was look over the various shoes they made to the LS2 last. And with that last style....I used the Superfeet blue insole.

Somehow I drifted away from New Balance....and have not been able to find comfort with current Brooks I'm mostly wearing and Superfeet....so had a foot doctor make me some custom insoles. Which work great and all that....but they aren't any better than the new Balance LS2 last with Super Feet blue I used to use. I fell for the custom insole from Doctor bit....which may or may not work better than off the rack insole.

So IMHO....those of us with sensitive arches and feet....once we find something that works....my advice is to stay with it. If you can find out which New Balance last the 880 is....look for other styles in that "last", or what shoe replaced shoe 880...which they will tell you if you ask.

I'm a Mizuno fan boy...wear them for running, walking, hiking, washing the car...

but... it's not about the brand, it's about the fit. Try on different shoes at a shoe or running store and see which shoes "disappear" under your feet.

I tried Superfeet in my Carnac Legends to give you an idea of when.
They were good but I think the Birks are better support at the arch. Nice that I can slip the Birks into dress shoes and the uber thin heel area means little to no lift out of the shoe.
You can put the Birks right on top of existing foam insoles.

Think I've whined about my two $400 custom orthotics that have a stupid piece that's about 2 or 3 mm high under the heel area. Lord knows why you'd do that. Lifts your foot right out.

The Birks were about $50.

before that I had Rx orthotic inserts for plantar fasciitis that I think came from some 510 shoes I tried. custom ones sucked!

for plantar fasciitis I had great success with heel cups and insoles from https://heelthatpain.com

Once the pf subsided I have been able to rely on the orange insoles.

Fleet feet’s in house brand of inserts have done me well. Check if there is a location near you and try some out in store.
