Final Build (Ultegra Mechanical, LightBicycle WR50 Wheelset)

Here's the final version with Ultegra hydraulic/mechanical groupset and LightBicycle WR50 wheelset. I installed 28mm GP5000 S TR tires (tubeless at ~65 PSI), which measured almost 31mm on these rims immediately after filling them with air. They will surely expand beyond 31mm within a few days (most tires grow a bit after installation).

The bike rides beautifully and I'm very happy with it. Especially given the cost for a lightweight (~16.6 lbs), crisp-shifting Ultegra build (~$1100 all-in, plus "bring-your-own-wheelset").

Detailed photos here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/p9dYEj1ELLcW7Vf27

I included a non-drive side photo (bottom), which shows the cabling under the downtube. I'm quite okay with this setup. With the black cables on black frame, the visual impact is pretty subtle, even on a bright sunny day (as seen here).

Thanks again to the folks who posted about their builds - whether in this thread or others on the forums! It was very helpful when I was thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these framesets.

Very very nice!
I think you got lucky and got the frameset that can run mechanical. Because I remember the one's TPC was selling was electronic wireless only.
Enjoy!

I like it. Graphics are a bit Knight Riderish for me but I think you scored.

The external routing and all that is a feature as far as I’m concerned. A pretty rare one in today’s market!

Hi Folks, thanks for the kind words. The frame was advertised as "SRAM AXS wireless only" (not even Di2 without DIY drilling), but it didn't take much to make it mechanical ready. See my earlier posts in this thread, which have both photo links and some details. Here's the short version:
1) I added a clamp-on cable stop under the front deraileur (black to match the frame, 34.9mm clamp diameter, just like the front derailleur itself).
2) I epoxied a couple of cable guides under the drive-side chainstay as a neater-looking way to hold the rear derailleur cable in place. Since I'm running full housing, those guides don't need to be particularly strong, and it looks much neater than zip ties or something of the sort (it looks like it came from the factory that way).

And that's it. Boom. Mechanical frameset. I just used the existing external cable guides (meant for the rear brake cable) to run all three cables for FD, RD, and rear brake. I agree the external routing is a feature - easy maintenance!

PS: I'll take Knight Rider graphics as a compliment, ha ha!

I'm running 160mm rotors (front and rear). For Shimano, their front calipers already come with the necessary adapter for running either 140mm or 160mm rotors on this frame (and most other frames). Just flip it in the correct direction (one direction for 140mm, the other for 160mm rotors). HOWEVER, Shimano never includes the rear adapter with the rear caliper, so be sure to order one of these if you are running 160mm rotors: Shimano - SM-MA-R160D/D - Disc Brake Mount Adapter - 160mm - Rear - Flat/Flat. Many road frames will take a 140mm rear Shimano caliper without an adapter of any kind.

Note: Shimano's front and rear calipers are the same, except the front comes with the aforementioned adapter and the rear comes with nothing. You cannot use the front adapter for the rear (so you can't buy two front calipers), since the rear adapter is different.

Getting closer to road ready...

Bits are coming together, need to do final fitting and tape. Will cut steerer length after a fair bit of test riding.

I have 2-3 different tape candidates as I could quite decide. First up is this one:

Coming along quite nicely! I like the black to orange tape idea as well!

Link. Way overpriced for how quickly it flattens out. But it is pretty. Though maybe the tape pictured is something different…maybe fizik!
