Canyon/Rapha collabo bike

I'm not generally a huge fan of these new fangled aero bikes, but this one does look pretty slick. About $8,500 bucks as equipped. I must say that zipp's new crop of NSW wheels are damned nice too.

too rich for my blood, but i would love to be able to rent one of these while on the road. i bet they ride great.

Is it painted with curated vegetable-based color pigments extracted from organic coconuts grown on Bora Bora?

I have the plain, non Rapha'd aero road. I would say the ride is borderline uninspiring. Stiff with all the feeling of dead wood.

Wish I had bought Liberace's Merlin/Sarto instead.

Is it square, or is it a Kamm tail?

I find that very interesting, and a bike with no one on it those make sense. Put a person pedaling on top of any of those shapes and it pretty much renders it useless. I think riding position has way more effect on wind resistance and air flow than any tube shape. But hey, marketing always trumps logic.

That's the Ultimate, Canyon's standard road bike. Their aero bike is the Aeroad, a different model from the Rapha collabo bike.

For this very reason Cervelo does their wind tunnel testing with a 3D replica of a rider sitting on it. To make the rider replica, they used a 3D laser scan of David Zabriskie. Maybe Zabriskie doesn't represent all riders, but it is certainly closer to testing with no rider.

Well, they are making it a limited edition, it will be personalized, and you're locked into being a club member.

In the past they've had a reputation for being sticklers about their club kit being only for club members. What if you want to then sell it -- does it have to be to a club member? Will they de-personalize it? So I guess that means you'd better really like it.

I really liked Rapha's stuff. But this move to club-only, along with some warrantee issues recently has me wondering what the overall strategy is.

While nice, it would kill me knowing that there are 49 more of these out somewhere on the road. If I'm shelling out that kind of dough for a bike, I think I'd want it to be a one-of-a-kind.

(All hypothetically speaking, though, since I'm pretty sure I'd never spend that much money on a bike.)
