UK's new official body, Active Travel England

Headed up by Chris Boardman, this seems to put a higher level look at improving conditions for alternative transportation over the long term. Does the US have anything comparable?

The timing of the announcement is funny since it coincides with all the anger over the change in the Highway Code starting Monday

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...fect-DAYS.html

Controversial Highway Code overhaul that tells cyclists to pedal in the middle of the road takes effect in DAYS amid warning new rules will lead to spike in road rage incidents
From next week, the Highway Code insists motorists must give way to cyclists and pedestrians at junctions
New 'hierarchy of road users' means drivers will have more responsibility for safety of vulnerable road users
The new code rules state that cyclists should also ride in the middle of the road in certain circumstances
Cyclists and drivers must also give way to pedestrians who are crossing or waiting to cross at junctions

Thanks for posting the article. I suppose change leads to controversy anywhere in the governed world. Reasonable changes may be being proposed, but if inconsistency is in the overall package, that won't help matters at all. On the other hand, the more people out of their cars and onto bikes, the less road rage, perhaps?

Well, given Chris Boardman has been an advocate of cycling as a means of transport for years and years, this is great. Also, his own elderly mother was killed by a driver a few years ago while out on a ride, so he’s very passionate about cycling safety (and was for years before his mothers death). He’s also been an advocate of cycling defensively and taking the center of the lane for as long as I can remember.

if only the US had a scandal free, well respected and well known cyclist they could call on to advocate for safer roads.
Reggie Miller or Shaq are maybe the closest?
Good on Chris for being so passionate about this cause.
