Specialized Bay Area

I guess this is the follow up from their termination of the Mikes Bikes relationship after the Pon buyout.

Not clear who is running the service side of it. Hard to tell if this is really a step into the DTC world (with full retail prices) or just a dealer in disguise.

Mike's Bikes has 12 stores in the Bay Area

They were huge...and still are. Maybe even Specialized's biggest dealer chain in the country. Looks like Specialized is trying to cover a lot of territory with a new, not very well presented virtual delivery strategy. Mike's will be fine without them but wonder what sort of hit Spec is taking in the mean time.

Kinda cool article about the 10 biggest retailers in the U.S.

There's a lot of vague in that. The pickup-and-dropoff part particularly; you don't know where you're picking up the bikes (or doing the service) until you burrow down into the website. (Seems like a band-aid solution, like when Ford couldn't make integrade a second sliding rear door into its first minivan, so they just made the driver's side door a foot longer.)

Or it could be the wave of the future. Who knows.

I have heard of a report that Specialized has purchase Roaring Mouse Bikes in San Francisco...

It's the sale of regional chains that is remarkable, rather than the purchase of single stores. The last two by Trek were stunners (particularly for Specialized). Our chain is the largest in the Triangle. I'm sure someone will come calling at some point.
