Cycling Specific Duffel Bag(s)

Does anyone know of any cycling specific duffel bags with a padded helmet compartment?

Years ago a few friends had Sram race bags and they had a separate padded area for their helmets on the side. This was actually nifty when packing bikes and other crap on top of these bags squeezing everything into the car as you knew your helmet would be safe.

I have a bit of the same situation (plus added airline travel with the helmet) now and can't find another bag through my research like the sram one (and tracking the sram bags down now is almost impossible...). Any leads would be appreciated

Just a comment from the peanut gallery...

I'm not sure I'd be terribly confident in a helmet which required a lot of extra care to pack. I understand that shipping them via mail or in the cargo hold of an airliner might be a bit different case, but just tossing it in the car for a road trip? Even on the bottom of a pile-o-bikes...

I had the SRAM bag and it lasted for years. It finally got dirty and gross enough to replace and I went with the OGIO Endurance 9.0: http://www.ogio.com/athletic/athleti...pr4753038.html

It's great, but a little big, so I wish I had gone for the smaller version at times.

SRAM

Bontrager

Specialized

And above all check out BLSGlobal.com (Black Line Sprinting). These guys have a range of superb bags. Pricey but you can probably find one that suits you. Some are focused on track, others are not.

I have the SRAM bag and mine is still going strong. I kinda wish that it would wear out or get ruined though, because I would love to get the Silca duffle bag.

I've got one of these from mountainsmith and it works great. Three large compartments and one is highly ventilated.

I asked a sort of similar question here. Maybe one of the responses there is helpful.

https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=215746

I was pretty set on the ILE Race Day bag (which has a helmet spot but its not padded) but decided it was going to be too small for 2-3 days business travel + bike kit/etc. I ended up getting the Patagonia MLC on an REI sale + REI dividend. It's not cycling specific but is a well designed travel bag. I've used it twice and like it a lot so far.

The helmet compartment is so the helmet doesn't have to just be thrown in the car, there's a place for it ha. My main concern for the separate helmet area is (the protection of course) but so there's nothing like shoes/etc there to scratch the crap out of it or rub up against it. Plus the organization factor to satisfy my ocd...

I have the Ogio too. It is big but the features are good.

Thanks for the leads so far, some good stuff. I have a Patagonia bag now which is great, but my helmet and shoes get stuffed in there with my normal clothes it's a smelly and not ideal situation. I don't need a massive bag really just enough for a tablet and cycling gear.

The Rapha bag is a bit pricey and looks a touch small for what I'd like.

I quite like the mountainsmith one, I wish it was more rectangular with different straps but it's got what I'm looking for as far as features

The Trek bag is really clean, it's small as well though...and has trek logos on it..

I like the BLS Veloracing bag a lot, might be a winner. A tad tiny as well though.

If I wind up needing a bag for cycling stuff and normal carry on stuff as well the ILE bag seems ideal, I like the backpack straps as well.

Inside Line Equipments race day bag checks every box but the one with the padded helmet area.

Sounds like you want something a bit bigger. This is a magnificent bag, bulletproof, completely in ballistic nylon. It's legendary among railroad engineers and is one of the top bags among serious high-end bag junkies.
