Time to trainer after Laparoscopic hernia repair surgery

What amount of times have folks had before getting back on bike after Laparoscopic hernia repair surgery. Both indoor trainer or on the road/woods/gravel etc.

Back in my 20's when I got that done, I think I was back on the trainer spinning easy within 2 days. Rode to my post-op the following week. Doc wasn't too happy with me though.

Time to trainer after Laparoscopic hernia repair surgery

2 weeks until easy endurance on the trainer.

At around 4 weeks pushed it into SS and Threshold efforts with varying success.

At 5 weeks riding outside 100-130 miles/week, nothing stupid.

8 weeks back to work (very physical job).

I was 39 yrs old at the time. Surgery wrecked my core strength for a couple of weeks. I wouldn’t say I was fully recovered until about a year out. Intermittent surgical site pain/discomfort, consistent self awareness and guarding.

But it all comes back around. Be patient, don’t rush it.

Also worth noting, as I’m sure many in your life have: not all hernias and their respective surgical repairs are the same. The above was for a relatively small umbilical hernia, no implant, laparoscopic repair. A good friend had a larger repair with implant, but not laparoscopic - his recovery was even quicker.

Two Days after hernia surgery I was mowing my lawn which was close to an acre. All the best for your recovery

Most of the recovery guidelines are around pretty sedentary lifestyles

Gut incision, doesn't matter if sedentary or active. Use dr advice. I was told after my appendix 3 weeks.

Of course cycling bit different that log rolling...

I took it really easy getting out of bed for several days afterward my inguinal hernia repair.

I don't remember the specifics as it was five years ago, but my Garmin records indicate very light running three weeks later, and back to normal a week or two after that.
