One of these showed up on Martha's Vineyard about a year ago. I talked to the owner and he also bought it from a Seattle dealer. Only 8,000 miles on it when he got it, I think it is a 1989, also a former fire truck.

A friend of mine did the import themselves; said it wasn't hard but a few things took longer cause he didn't know the ins and outs beforehand.

2.4L NA diesel engine gets grrrreat fuel economy but yeah you ain't passing nobody going up a mtn pass. Generally I can pace semi's and am usually slightly faster but yeah you get the idea.. 5spd standard transmission so it does wonderful in the snow/sand/mud, put it in L4 and just grunt around.

The fire truck - I was talking to my wife about buying one and renting it out as a kids party prop. Customize graphics, photo booth, etc. I think it could be a hit in NYC or anywhere for that matter... Anyone in NYC want in on this business plan?

Arizona seems to be hotspot for older Mitsu's.

There always seems to be Pajero's .......ahem, sorry, Monteros and Delicas for sale.

Right now I count three. Just bite the bullet and get it done. I'll provide a place to stay and my old lady will fix ya warm meal. Make it happen!!!

always liked the delicas but in socal I know it wouldn't last long. the small engine will blow the head after several trips over the 5, not interested in dealing with that. they all end up dead here in Los Angeles after a couple years as people go camping up north, that initial ascent out of la is brutal. I know you won't get bro points but the Sienna or 4runner/100 series is smarter and more modest if you're doing a lot of elevation in hot climates.

There are quite a few Toy's and Mitsu's listed locally, the PNW seems to be a hot spot for bring them into the States.

I love it, and it definitely gets 10 out of 10 on rad scale............but even if I had unlimited cash I could never justify that thing. It's waaaay too big to go on 90% of the trails I've been on (or would want to go on) and not small enough to justify taking it on uber long trips.

To each his own I 'spose.....
