Tool Source
I'm looking for a 3/8 tamper proof hex socket to use with my 1up rack. 3/8 drive would be preferred. I have the hex key that comes with it, but would prefer a socket and ratchet. Google takes me to every 3/8 drive tamper proof socket except what I'm looking for. Anyone know of a source for a single socket?

Looks like there’s a 3/8 drive socket that accepts a 3/8” tamper-proof bit. The set is relatively cheap. Other possibility is to take the Allen key, cut it off, and use in a 3/8 drive 3/8” socket. Best place to look for something like this is a good automotive parts shop. |

McMaster Carr has then as insert bits you can use with an impact driver https://www.mcmaster.com/#7240A52
They do not stock as large as 3/8” hex with a socket drive which surprised me and may well mean they are not readily available. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Amazon?
I'm at a point where I do not like buying from them, but I picked up a single safety bit this past fall. It was a bigger size (needed to release the tension pulley on a Mercedes), but was able to find the single bit that I needed.
My hunch is you've already checked there, but I'll throw this out in case it's helpful. |

The bit set posted above is a possibility if I cant find what I have in mind. Maybe its time to get a drill press and make one, that will surely save money in the long run. |

I think you might have a hard time making one with a drill press.
First, it would be a bear to center the hole on the hex, and, second, not sure you could drill a hardened hex bit. Easiest thing to do is cut the allen you have and use it to replace the hex in a hex socket. The thing already has a set screw to hold the bit in place. |

Come on man, that's like telling an alcoholic to go to the liquor store. Actually they didnt have it either... but I did see a few other things to add to my want list. I may just go with the cut and paste route suggested above.

Now that I am not actively saving for a new bike, my bike money is going to new tools.
Never knew this place existed until a few weeks ago, have now ordered new hex keys and a set of knipex cable cutters to replace aging tools I have and are worn out or difficult to use. Between this place and abbey, my tool bag is going to be really nice. Just need to make asset of sleeves for a 20 year old timbukk2 bag to hold my tools. |
