I think if I had a C59/EPS/SLRs I would be pretty happy too.

I'm still looking. Every bike I have has something about it that I really truly love, but combining them all is impossible. However, the dream bike in my head is very close, and would replace 3 bikes...but I'm just not ready yet for that sort of commitment!

Of what's in my stable now, my Surly Troll wins. Extremely versatile, comfortable, and the novelty of owning it still hasn't worn off. Yet it's not delicate. Scratches don't anger me. It can jump off curbs and get locked up at the bar. I couldn't do that with a Kirk, or Weigle, or whatever other fantasy bikes are on my list.

I've owned over 700 bikes, ridden most of them multiple times. My favorite riding bike was a Derosa Professional, SLX tubing. My favorite overall was a Cuevas and my current favorite is a Brian Baylis. Close competition would be Columbine and Jonathan Greene.

BMX bike that I had as a kid that got me excited about riding bikes in the first place.

No idea what it was, but all I know is it was heavy, it had refelctors, and I was the fastest kid in the neighborhood.

700??? That is crazy!!!

I've had over 70 (I think 73 on the last count) over the past 20ish years and have been very fortunate to own and experience a bunch of really cool bikes. It's hard to pick a favorite, but my 83 Cinelli (the bike that I owned the longest) and my Moots Vamoots are probably my favorites. Neither of them are/were the "best" bikes, but have/had good combinations of multiple factors - responsiveness, handling, ride quality, history, aesthetics, etc.

My tig'd Bedford. Being without it the last few months has made me appreciate it more. My Merckx Strada OS is a great bike but it doesn't compare.

Didya notice the bicycling article intro'd with a head nod towards the ottrott and the demise of serotta?

yea, I get it monthly - some whacko-deal ultra-cheap 5 year deal made me do it - easy and quick reading in my "library" and just leave it at the dr. office for someone else.

that is like 14 bikes (coming and going) a year for 50 years.
can you share a bit more about how you acquired and disposed of this volume?
just the mechanics /operational aspect of doing this blows my mind
