Baroness Thatcher RIP

announced less than an hour ago, after a stroke.

I cannot overlook the disgraceful divisions she wrought through English society. Pitting people against their kin is no claim to greatness, no matter what else they have achieved or spearheaded.

Sure, but that doesn't mean there was a point to it.

I think the point is that the Op believes that she wasn't a GREAT politician. Knowing that everyone will pronounce her as one......

She held firm to her principles, smashed the grip unions had on industry for better or worse but I remember doing homework by candlelight because of her 'iron lady' persona...... I remember those poor miners that suffered so much......

I remember how she harboured and supported Chile's General Augusto Pinochet who tortured children in front of their parents.

I remember how she ordered the sinking of a retreating warship, the General Belgrano resulting in the loss of hundreds of Argentinian sailors.

I remember her opposition to sanctions against apartheid South Africa.

I remember her support for the Khmer Rouge.

If that is the point, then it seems to go against the rules of the forum, no politics.

It does seem disengenious to start and RIP thread to just kick the corpse, no?

Wow. Perhaps this thread should be stricken from the records.
