I believe the Mini would be too small for me, but Ornot's standard size is bigger than I normally need. It turns out that Rickshaw, who makes Ornot's bags, has a size that's intermediate between the two, plus several other sizes. They call it the small bar bag (as oppose to mini). This one is perfect for me for a long ride. I will say that squeezing an Ottolock (one of those flexible combo locks that coils up into a circle) is a bit awkward, but otherwise I can cram in my phone, keys, and a couple of snacks.

Saw the rapha today and almost picked one up. I had a road runner but never used it. I read once any and all attachments for handlebar bags will end up marring my precious finish on the HT. Thoughts?

How is stability then in rough stuff? I’m rarely on pavement the entire ride.

I assume they all need some way to attach in the rear to avoid swinging back and forth or bouncing around.

Almsthre just came in the mail

have not used it yet but it appears to be exactly what I had in mind. I think they do themselves a slight disservice by not showing more detailed photos on their website. 360 view shows it best. Zippered pocket on one end, mesh pocket on the other end, and inner lengthwise mesh pocket perfect for phone and wallet. And with structural integrity from plastic liner that's between inner and outer layer of nylon. Appears to be remarkably well made too. Decent price too. Sent out of Escondido, CA so maybe made there or in some foreign land.

At the front, the bag is up against my cables or hydraulic hoses. Like you think, there is a cord that you wrap around the head tube or your spacer stack to stabilize the bag. So far, neither arrangement has caused abrasion. You’re right that this can scratch the paint in theory, but that doesn’t seem to have happened yet. There is frame tape if you’re concerned, at least! So far, on gravel, it seems like the bag is stable enough, but I’m mainly on dirt roads and light gravel rather than really rough stuff.

Here is a photo showing the elastic cord. It is long enough you can wrap it around the head tube
I wrap it around the stem, but most of the time I dont need it.
Maybe offroad it will help if it gets floppy. They don't really move much, even though it would seem like they just swing on the bars, they don't.

I just received my Leadout bag & I am very impressed with it.

It has a very nice stretchy strap & quick release buckle system + the elastic cord with quick slide in back.

Nice rip stop interior lining & a divider + a small side pocket with zip

Quality is very nice+ Holds its shape well even empty on bars

I got the charcoal color which is nice

The ALMSTHRE bags have some really cool features. Adjustable straps, hardshell, multiple pockets and an easy to access main zipper compartment make it my new go to bag.

I am very pleased with this one. It mounts (to the rack) in seconds with the leather sleeve and a single elastic band. It is away from your hands on the bars, does not swing or sway, etc. The two small pockets at the back are great for a spare tube(s)and levers, some small tools, etc. There is also a flat pocket that runs along the front of the bag for papers, a cell phone, or other flat items. Obviously, there is also the map window on the top for the same types of items that you may want to remain visible …and like all of the Berthoud bags made over the past thirty some years or so, it was handmade by Yvonne.
