Colnago "Freuler" Geometry ???

It certainly has me confused. Let's say for "normal" off-the-shelf geometry I ride ST=60 c-c, TT=58.5 c-c, horizontal TT. For custom, say ST=61 c-c, same TT (i.e. longish legs, shortish torso), and I don't have a huge saddle-to-bar drop.

So, when I look at the Colnago geometry it looks funky to me, and if I just want a "basic" 60c-c bike it's not obvious what my choice would be.

Anyone care to explain what's going on, and what Freuler Geometry is intended to achieve?

PS, these images were lifted from a 2001 Colnago catalog. I'm not sure how much they've changed over time.

A 62 would be in your wheelhouse, no? Colnagos are measured to the top. The rest of the hocus-pocus is just salad.

One thing that confuses me is that "D" (c-c) stops growing, but as best I can tell, these all have horizontal top tubes. Is that last statement right or wrong?

What is going on is that the Freuler bikes have lower top tube,
so the head tube and seat tube extend past the normal intersection
of the tubes. The actual seat tube and head tube length are listed
in the chart. The center to center seat tube dimension indicates
where the actual intersection of the top tube/seat tube happens

On that geo chart, there is no "normal" size 60. Every size over
the 59 has a dropped top tube.

The intent is to make the size of the front triangle smaller on the
biggest size bikes. I suppose they feel it adds some rigidity to the
larger frames.

That's how is works, i'm not so sure it really makes sense!

Today with longer seat posts, it's no longer necessary to extend the
seat lug above the top tube. So you'd basically end up with what
Pegoretti does, longer head tube on an otherwise shorter seat tube
main triangle.

Mark, Louis is hoarding bike frames in anticipation of the zombie invasion. Or Armageddon, whichever occurs first. He'll be able to see what's happening then build the correct frame for the occasion.

just focus on your preferred top-tube length for fit, everything else takes care of itself.

fwiw...pegoretti uses the same philosophy on many of his bikes, so it has the blessing of respected builders from a younger generation than ernesto!
