The tank-top ride - Sleeveless in the Summer

It breaks all The Rules. But I'm seeing it more and more. Tank tops billowing in the wind over bib-shorts..

Is this a local thing, or is it happening all over?

I'm horrified - yet oddly intrigued.

And tempted to try it myself --

We should put this thread into a cage with the Sun Sleeves thread, and let them do battle.

I haven't seen it. I wouldn't do it. Aside from the fact that I make heavy use of my jersey pockets, as discussed in the LS jersey thread, I'd be really worried about sunburns on my back/neck/shoulders.

About 15 or 16 years ago I bought a no-name sleeveless cycling jersey from Performance (I think? or maybe Nashbar) just because I needed ~$15 more dollars in my cart to get free something...

I wore it once.

I was so uncomfortable! In part because I knew I looked as dooshy as every other triathelete who rocks a sleeveless jersey...but also because those armholes are really irritating, the way they rub against your armpits.

Why bother? just go bibs only with no top.

Nipple burns are only exceeded by sun burns to the nether region.

A lesson quickly learned.

T-shirts and tank tops around here pretty common. Final form for road racers who have discarded the jersey and USAC for gravel or mountain bike racing. Buy a framebag, buy a fanny pack, break free from the jersey-industrial complex.

I had one too, about 20 years ago. Agree on all points. At least I stopped short of wearing arm warmers with it.

I occasionally will wear either sleeveless jerseys or I will cut the sleeves and collars off a SS jersey. Nothing like the cool breeze on a downhill

Saw a couple of older gents rocking & rolling the sleeveless look while I was riding this weekend. I was intrigued for sure ... I'm definitely ready for some new, stupid tan lines.

I don't know what feels more uncomfortable (on me)...a sleeveless jersey or the new short sleeve jerseys that seem like they extend the sleeve down to your elbow. When I'm JRA with my wife on a rail/trail, I do ditch the cycling jersey and bibs and go for a loose polo and shorts. She would not be seen with me if I donned my Iron Maiden tank.

We did it on 100f days and high humidity.........days when it’s so wet out that when you go down you just slide on your perspiration and end up with no road rash.

Bit to slow to pull it off today.

I just commented to a friend today about the days when you wouldn’t get a second look riding a nice bike in tube socks and no shirt. Maybe I was wrong.

My touring getup is liner shorts under regular shorts with a t-shirt. I would not look good in a tank top, plus it’s smacks too much of tri-guy.
