My wife buys my LS summer jerseys on Amazon cheap.....less than $20 on sale. I live where it's hot and humid much of the year, and after I get a little sweaty, think LS more comfortable than SL. I also have some dirt cheap Taiwan arm coolers that work well also (E Bay). No need for any space age materials.

I have an OrNot LS jersey. I start my rides around 8-9 and end before noon.
I wear LS jerseys because: 1. easier to put on than sunscreen. I think OrNot says its SPF 35? 2. Its still chilly in the mornings. I can unzip the front when it gets hot at noon. I too run hot, but unzipping the front allows me to regulate heat better than LS anyway. 3. im tired of my ever-darkening tan lines 4. more protection from road rash. |

De Soto arm sleeves cool very well, although they are a bit tight (aero?)
I like the generic $11.95 UV protector arm sleeves on Amaxon because they are looser easier to roll up and down on a ride. They also seem to protect from the sun just as well. |

I am not sure what you mean , I don’t think the suns orbit has anything to do with this. Heck, even flat earthers wear sunscreen, I think

Santini used to make some nice long sleeve summer weight jerseys but I just checked their website and I think they have stopped. This was 10 years ago pre aero Jersey trend. I had a nice one, it was a team Jersey for some kind of Australian team.

I had sun sleeves when I was riding in Mid-Atlantic summers but seldom wore them because of the humidity. In Cali they are a dogsend. I have too many ss jerseys already so I'm not planning on buying any long sleeve summer jerseys anytime soon. But if my kit drawer wasn't already crazy full I'd have a few. I have leg covers too but I seldom wear them as I don't tend to sunburn my legs, but my dermatologist would probably have a different opinion.
Off the bike, I really like a loose long sleeve sun shirt much better than anything else in dry sunny heat, I have a couple of these that I originally bought for my field work in the Sahel and they're great at home for hiking around Diablo in the summer https://www.rei.com/product/895032/c...eve-shirt-mens C'mon guys, really? It's just clothing! BTW, last week while on a ride I was stopped along Cull Canyon by a mini-van asking for directions to the Sequoia Sun Club that's at the end of the road. When they rolled down the tinted window I could see a couple of them were already appropriately dressed for the weather. Made my day! |

This thread made a memory pop up this morning on my run. When I was in Thailand, I was blown away by how covered the field workers were. You could only see their eyes, and it’s more humidity than I’ve ever felt! I believe someone told me the lighter the skin color the higher social standing you appear to have, so they cover every inch. I don’t know if that is true, but when you’re ripping a tobacco bong and buying ice for your giant bottle of beer, I don’t think you’re considering the UV index. I just know that after a day in the sun without protection I feel drained in a different way. So sun block, lightweight sleeves, hats, etc.

I wear arm coverings every ride. I live in Florida and need protection from the sun (skin cancer.) I can and do wet the sleeves for evaporative cooling effect.

Notice how they dress in Saudi Arabia? Kidding aside I learned years ago as a general contractor I spent 20+ years wearing shorts & tank tops Finally I got wise & realized it was cooler in the shade....always Switched to light jeans & long sleeve t-shirts & never went back Yes at say 10am it felt hotter (than shorts & tank top) but I never burned like I always did even with spf50 & once you sweated a little that moisture also acted as cooling when working in the sun Cycling wise I only have long sleeve jerseys these days |

Please do this. The bickering serves no purpose.

One of my favorite pieces is my Patagonia sun hoody. I wear it for all outdoor activities besides cycling and hiking. For hiking I have a vivid white REI long sleeve button down Sahara.
I’ve yet to try a summer long sleeve jersey and am quite happy with sun sleeves by pearl Izumi. |
