ENVE XC 29er tubular rims for road use

As per title really; might sound a silly question but a local shop has several sets of these rims for sale.

From what I understand there is no difference between a 700c tyre/tubular and 29er tyre in terms of diameter.

I ride 27mm Veloflex Vlaanderen tubulars and wondered how well they would mate with said enve Xc 29er tubular rims. I realise the rims are designed to be used with wider tyres. Would the rim bed be the wrong shape/width for said Veloflex tyre?

Not sure about road use, but I use a pair of their 27.5 AM rims for one of my gravel bikes. They are pretty wide rims and I’m running a 38mm tire without any issues.

Not sure how wide the xc29 rim is internally or externally, but I suspect 27mm may be a little too small. I could be wrong though.

I’ve attached an image showing the rim profile. 18mm internal profile. 24mm outer. Apparently it’s 287g for the tubular version

That looks like it will work fine. Mine are quite a bit wider and are clinchers set up tubeless. The inner and outer are more like today’s wider road rims.

I’ve put 27mm Vittoria tubulars onto Velocity Major Toms without issue. Think they will be fine.

Thanks for the input. Apologies for my ignorance but doesn’t 287g sound a little light?

That’s just for the rim. The wheel itself will be heavier. I had a set of enve road tubulars that built up to ridiculously light wheels.

Only reason I mention it was I compared it to a 26mm wide 32mm deep Corima tubular. Their latest rim only model is 330g (according to their website).

Enve makes a very lightweight rim. I have a couple of sets of their clinchers and had a set of classic tubulars. The tubular set were the lightest wheels I’ve ever had and were stout enough for me at 200+lbs.

Some screen names are fascinating...’maslow’, from the Val Kilmer movie?

287g is light but tubular and carbon..so not ‘weak’..

I guess I’m worrying over nothing really.

Just to clarify they are the older version of the XC rim with same brake track as the classics.

I might not be following this thought process correctly, but the XC29 rim doesn't have a rim brake track, as it was designed and intended to be mated to disc hubs..

If you were wanting that light and rim brake, the Classic 25 could be a good option.
