Why is the debris in the road different? The road cannot be 100% free of all types of obstacles. Why isn’t the cyclist responsible for riding unsafely?

Note: sort of devils advocate here, I’m not sure how I feel about this.
Me neither. I’m thinking that knowing there was a lot of traffic on this 2 lane road, I’d just barrel into the crap on the side of the road rather than swerve into traffic. Then put in a claim after angering in, hopefully not dead or seriously injured. Hindsight is always 20-20.

I hit a 6 foot long builder’s level on a CA road in 1993....fell, road rash, dislocated RH thumb...put in a claim with the state, they essentially told me to either sue them or STFU...

Looks like the state was willing to settle but the city wanted to roll the dice?

Stupid city.

Also only managed to read about 5 comments before wanting to reach through my monitor to choke people out.
