Life long motorcycle rider
I did own the first one in '79, Moto Gori RG50, 50ccm, 17HP @ 15,000 rpm. Basically no torque. No power below 7,000 rpm but what a blast once you got used to it. Had it for less than 2 years before it was stolen. Always on the lookout but they are pretty much unobtainium with less than 200 built. The Duc and RC30 are the holy grail bikes for me. |

I went over to the other thread and had some fun looking at everyone’s bikes. I HAD a 2014 Ducati Monster 796. It was a great bike but someone got antsy in traffic and had to do an illegal u-turn back in October. The bike is totaled and I have been off of my preferred bike with a broken leg ever since. My girlfriend’s matching 696 has been gathering dust in the garage ever since. One of our neighbors has a beautiful Ducati Sport classic that just gathers dust. After my accident he told me that he had been having so much fun running that he didn’t want to risk injury so he stopped riding. Smart guy.
It’s almost impossible not to want a motorcycle. They are really fun BUT the biggest catch for me is that you have to decide between riding a bike and riding a moto. One is a much more rewarding experience, the other is ca be thrilling, but has an extremely high risk factor. I live in a dense, trafficy city and I was commuting—I was exposing myself to huge amounts of risk for no good reason. If I lived in a smaller town and didn’t commute, I would be tempted to get another bike. But the time issue isn’t negated by those other factors. One of the weird things that I never got used to was that if I went for a nice 2-6 hour moto ride, I could have the best ride of my life but as soon as the bike was off, the good feelings of the ride were over. I never got the endorphin effect that you get from a long bike ride with a moto ride. |

i love motorcycles a ton.
my problem is that, around here, they are kind of a drag to ride. too much traffic, too many lights, distracted drivers. it is an absolute joy/pleasure to ride out on twisty country roads, but riding in hevy traffic with soccer moms in huge SUVs who dont pay attention is doable of course, but less fun. i would definitely get more moto miles in in if lived somewhere with a more enjoyable commute.

Here's my errand runner, a 2015 SYM Wolf 150. Basically a modern clone of the CB125, a tiny bike that's super fun to ride.
I am also in the (long) process of a 1982 Yamaha XV750 Cafe racer build |

I've owned 3 nice Harleys and when I sold the last one I said that's it. After seeing this I become a liar.

HAR! I've been drooling myself, but it's not in production, and I don't know if it's to be anything more than a prototype.

If you can ride a bicycle in a pack, you can ride motos in traffic. The same skillset (more or less) transfers pretty well.
The braking skills are pretty similar as well. ...and so are 'riding in town' skills. With the exception that you are moving with traffic or faster than traffic rather than being at it's mercy. M |

That 900SS is a grail for a lot of us, though I'd replace the RC with a RD500LC.
As much as I'd love to own either of those, my ultimate grails are Brough Superior, a Vincent Black Shadow and a Hesketh V1000. If I ever won the lottery I'd need a really big garage for the motos I desire....

The attraction to the single banger Husqvarnas is that they ride more like a bicycle than you'd think.

I'd love to take one of those Husqvarnas for a ride. I've ridden a friends ktm 690 enduro with the same motor and it is sweet. A local dealer has a couple 2019 leftovers at really good prices. If the world wasn't such a **** show right now I would be very tempted to try to make a deal on a Svartpilen.

I am very often tempted to get back into motorcycles. Loved them years ago!
These days I would likely be far more drawn to something without fairings. |
