I've been messing around with motos the last few years and have a small Ninja (300) and a large Aprilia (RST 1000). When I first started off I thought a moto would make me feel safer, because you're riding with traffic instead of next to it, and in that regard it does. However, I've come to realize that on a bicycle you're more likely to have more frequent but low-impact and unlikely to do much damage incidents (assuming you're not rear-ended by an inattentive driver, which is my #1 fear) and on a moto your less likely to have incidents, but when you do, the risk of significant damage to your body is much higher.

Personally, I get more enjoyment from a fun bike ride on a nice day compared to a fun moto ride on a nice day, but sometimes you feel like taking it easy and don't want to pedal.

I'm a big fan of all things things two-wheeled. Recently got into riding off-road and did the Trans-America Trail in 2018.

The TAT is one of the things I'd like to do.

I have a 796 with the 78IOM body kit. Fun bike and I think I might give it an oil change today. That said, your second statement is quite true. The moto can be a blast but after a great bicycle ride, I'll have endorphins for hours, on the moto not so much.

Used to be that guy... ridden pretty much everything up to y2k, been close to 200mph, gapped 90~ft, etc. I have rented a few bikes since then, but that part of my life is over. No regrets.

Except not meeting John Britten before he died, testing riding a Test 1D or 2D, and not buying a tuned Duck from Fast by Ferracci before they closed when my cousin did...

If interested, take some time to read about Neal Peart from Rush. Avid cyclist and adventure motorcyclist. Great stuff.

RIP.

Well you guys certainly aren’t helping me with my decision, but the voice in the back of my head is too clear for me to go there. Some really beautiful bikes there .

If you are going to get a bike.. Buy a nice old 70s BMW.
R75 or R90.
It's the do anything bike and they are beautiful... Get a nice low mileage example, and you will never loose money it if you decide its not for you .
PM if you need more direction, I've got about 25 bikes now (I think) Mostly BMWs and will be glad to help however I can.
