Chain stay protection

For quite a while I have just cut Gorilla Tape to size but always end up with something that is short of perfect. Bubbles here and there, etc. what do you use in this sort of application?

over the years...

I've used these a bunch. Hardly ever get slap on the road these days so seem black electrical tape with radiused ends works most of the time.

Since you're looking for something closer to perfection this will probably look too messy for you, but I've found that spiral-wrap wire organizers work well, as long as you find one that's the correct size. It comes in various colors and sizes.

Road bikes? Nothing.
Gravel bike? An old innertube wrapped around the chainstay like bartape. The ends are wrapped with self-fusing silicone tape.

On family MTBs I have used Newbaum cloth tape because of a specific color, inntertubes, and some ugly 3 color bar tape that I would never otherwise use because my kid liked it.

Self-vulcanizing silicone electrical tape. Same stuff you should be finishing your bar wrap with.

Do you guys really mean helicopter tape, or using that term generically for clear protection films, such as this 3M item?
