I'm odd in that I want as few bikes as possible. The Hampsten rides soooo smooth with great performance attributes too that I want to ride it all the time. I found myself ogling the Kirk (with its Campy SR12) in a way that made it a touch too precious. That ain't my bag. So, away it went. I'm also quite fond of 32/35 rubber, and have grown accustomed to that ride. The Kirk floats on 28s...but not like Ti on fatter rubber. Sometimes I cut to the quick to see if there's blood in there.

San Juan Huts -> Durango to Paradox
Just came home from an amazing trip of riding with pals through the San Juan Mountains, hut to hut. Enjoy!

Love it! I've always wanted to do some variation of that trip. How was your experience? Thanks for sharing the photos.

Was great. Everyone got along, the weather cooperated, mostly and we only had two flats for a group of eight with five days of riding. Would do again for sure.

39 miles with my wife in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia
Belle Grove Plantation - like its sister plantation a little to the east, Longbranch, Belle Grove was a slave-worked plantation before the civil war. About three years ago there was an archeological dig on the grounds where the slave quarters were thought to have been. The area is still fenced off but no digging is happening at present.
The Battle of Cedar Creek, otherwise known as the Battle of Belle Grove, was fought in the fall of 1864 on and around the grounds at Belle Grove. Last edited by dcama5; 08-13-2022 at 03:31 PM. |

Beautiful day here on the Rock. Threw the Fulcrums with 700x25 GP5000 tires on after learning that the 650bx42 tires are just as fast in the other thread . Have to say that the feel of a skinny tire on good pavement is a great experience, as much as I love the wider tires on the more challenging surfaces. Did realize that when I thought I might drop in on a friend that the road she lives on made it a no go with these tires.

Went on a covered bridge ride today, 40 miles and 4 bridges. One was uncovered as it is currently being rebuilt. Also rode past my childhood home.

Out again in our little mountain valley for a cool but humid 30 miler. It was also a shakedown, test ride of the new to me C4 Air One.

Sorry Jan, but riding well groomed dirt on a proper road bike with 25mm tires is sheer bliss. LOVE the feeling of flying along on dirt on a [real] road tire.

Yesterday, 45 mile group ride that was ~35% gnarly dirt. Great group of cyclists, but I gotta admit I still find the idea of doing off-road riding on a drop-bar "gravel bike" asinine. Gimme a full-squish 29er and I might actually have fun on these rides!
But we wound up in some park in Tarrytown with this wonderful view of the Manhattan skyline as seen beneath the new Tappan Zee (aka Governor Mario Cuomo) Bridge: |

Nice pic of Tappan Zee Bridge. I agree about off road. Give me a flat bar bike.
