Why not? A guy is offering his experience of trying things out. He is betting on his intuition. That´s the beauty of tech forums.

Was mostly just curious if anyone has/had tried going mechanical on a bike that was primarily made for electronic. I'm now pretty sure the answer is no x 1000.

Me? I'd suck it up and buy the Di2, but it's not my frame. M |

I think this is one of those things that no one has attempted.
If I purchased an "Electronic only" frame, most guys would simply purchase an Electronic group. That's the conventional thinking of buying a frame from a brand that offers both options. The Parlee Z5SLI was a frame that was constructed for both groups. You'd honestly have to review Canyon technical documents to identify why there are (2) models to begin with. I'm going to assume there's more involved than removing the DT cable stops, to make a frame "Electronic Only". Reinforcing areas and the BB junction difference between routing a FD cable, and a Battery/FD electronic cable.. (2) different types of bends. If it works, ride it and have fun! |

I may...MAY...end up getting a Di2 upgrade kit if my idea for mechanical doesn't work out the way I hope it will. There. I said it.

Prolly been done to death, but anyone have any science type studies on how many watts you save not throwing that finger? Got to be massive I would think...

Technically, you would save joules (or ergs if you prefer cgs units.)

I’m sure it’ll work fine.
I built a Cervelo S5 a couple of years ago for my son with a Campy mechanical group. The frame accepted both mechanical and electronic, but I was getting a lot of shifting problems from the internal cables. I wound up bypassing the internal cable design and just pushed the whole cable and housing through the frame as you described and everything worked great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

perhaps a better question is why have that parlee AND the canyon at the same time. I bet you couldn't tell them apart riding blindfolded.

Riding blindfolded frame characteristics is the ONLY consideration worth a damn when choosing a new steed.

Good news is that 10sp shifters work fine with 11sp derailleurs. ...just do yourself a favor and get the new battery. That's where all the software hides. M |

"I think it'll work just fine! I see no reason why not! I mean, if you can spec an electronic group onto a frame designed for mechanical, why not the other way around, using a little ingenuity? I think it'll work great!".....said no one.
