This attorney had a lot of criminal clients in the Central Valley and as time was money he liked averaging 110 on the 5 through the Grapevine. Zero tickets in that notorious speed trap. I think those plates used to be a deal. Thousand bucks and your whole family would get one. Oh, rarest car. A Bugatti on a show trailer. And an Enzo or two. For me most of the obscure cars I saw were at my friend's garage. I helped (re)install the engine/transmission in a Mangusta. Machined solid lifter cups for an Espirit. Moved a 365? convertible (most expensive car I drove, albeit for 50 feet). Lots of Aston Martins. Etc.
The best one wasn't me, it was the Missus. Ring ring (my cell phone). "Hello?" "Hey, I'm behind and next to this really cool looking car, you'd probably appreciate it. I can't tell what kind of car it is though." "It's not a Ferrari or something?" "No, it's really low, kind of angular." "It might be a Jaguar or something. Might be a Saleen? Do you see a logo or something?" "Um... not really. It says Vector on it though." "WHAT!?" "Yeah, Vector." Etc. So she saw one of something like 8 or 15 or whatever that made it out into the wild, stuck in traffic. I got to drive a 1 in 29 car, 2016 CTS-V launch edition. That was scary because I didn't want to damage it. I think I maxed out at about 40-45 mph. The scariest car I ever saw was a BMW, I want to say 328?, tiny little relatively insignificant looking car. It was some special edition, adorned with many fascist logos. Allegedly "he" rode it in in some parade or whatever. Gave me the creeps just looking at it.

A few months ago I was driving in Northern Virginia, near Washington D.C., and spotted a red Ferrari Dino 246 GT in red. Followed it for about 5 minutes as the car was going in the same direction and suburb I was going. My dream car. The driver was a man in his 50's or 60's with Rayban Aviators...he was good at driving that car too. Not the fastest, not the flashiest, but to me the most classic thing ever to come from Pininfarina.
Was lucky enough one year to be in Milan for the Millie Miglia 1000. Almost fainted with the procession of amazing cars. "Wow, wow, wow, wow", and so on until all the cars passed. Heaven. in the early 90's I lived in Brookline, MA, and they had a car museum that was selling it's mint condition Ferrari for something like $17,000, and I stupidly listened to a bunch of my older friends who said "don't buy it, the repair costs, the costs of keeping it in a garage"....... It's the one that got away.

Back in 1985, I almost closed a deal on a 1953 Muntz Jet. Rarest car I've ever seen - total production of 400 from 1951 to 1954 and only twelve '53s are known to exist today. Seller wanted $5,000 but I was young and poor and could only scrape up $4,600. He almost took me up on it but then backed out. It was a cool car. Worth over $100k now. But then I could've bought Apple stock too.
