Black Mountain Cycles Monster Cross

Yes, another one!

Built up this bike as a part time commuter, part time gravel bike. I initially started with a lower budget in mind, but you all know how that turns out. Was still able to put everything together with a mix of SRAM parts.

Unfortunately, I haven't gotten a chance to get in a proper ride with it yet due to the rain here, but my initial impressions after riding it around the block is that this bike is going to be a blast to ride.

I want to thank the Paceline community on the advice provided and the deals made by many great members on here.

Parts list:
Frame/Fork: 50cm Black Mountain Cycles Monster Cross V3
Headset: Cane Creek 40
Shifters: SRAM Rival
Crankset: SRAM Apex 46/36
Front Derailleur: SRAM Rival
Rear Derailleur: SRAM X9 Type 2
Cassette: Shimano XT 11-36 10 speed
Brakes: TRP CX8.4
Front Wheel: Velocity A23 to generic Formula hub
Rear Wheel: Velocity A23 O/C to White Industries T11 hub
Tires: WTB Nano 40 TCS (set up tubeless)
Bars: 3T Ergonova OEM
Stem: Zipp Service Course SL 90mm
Saddle: Flite Ti

(Excuse the spacers, still trying to dial in the fit)

I am replacing my Merckx Alu Cross with a black Monstercross.

Frameset for frameset.

I had a pink Monstercross last year, but my younger brother talked me out of it so he could start riding offroad with us.

That pink MC was a super versatile bike that loved to carry a light load pretty much anywhere.

Great for our gravel day tours and fly fishing expeditions.

I think this is my favorite color for the BMCMC. It just looks fantastic. One of these might be in my future. What a great versatile bike. Looks fantastic!

Wow it's been 4 years - how time flies!

I've since repurposed this as my commuter/rain/city/around-town/do anything bike. Swapped in some 700x35 Gravelkings and Planet Bike Cascadia fenders.

Plans:
- Swap in a dynamo hub equipped front wheel. Add front light
- Velo Orange Randonneur or Nitto M18 frontrack
- Fix rear fender mounting

What made you choose the MonsterCross vs Road? I'm looking at the Road+ or MCD but wanted to know what others thought who ride them.

And did this bike replace any of your other rides?

Cool choice I'd say for the price, workmanship, color selection, etc... I would rec Black Mountain to someone in the market for a new ride.

Actually the other way around. I got a new gravel bike, so this bike turned into my commuter/around-town bike.

At the time, I chose the MonsterCross because I wanted to jump on the whole gravel craze. It allowed me to fit knobby 700x40 tires with room to spare.

If I were to choose today, I'd go with the road (rim brake version) since it still allows sufficient room for wide-ish road tires and fenders.
