The Dirty Apple Ride – Sunday October 7, 2018

The Dirty Apple Ride – Sunday October 7, 2018

The Dirty Apple is Westchester Cycle Club’s fall mixed terrain event. This fully-supported ride features four routes through gorgeous Northern Westchester, light breakfast, two rest stops, SAG and mechanical support, and a post-ride lunch.

“There are dirt roads in Westchester County, New York ?“

There sure are. We started with a map of our favorite dirt roads to bring you a challenging mixed terrain ride entirely in northern Westchester.

Four routes to choose from:

Green Apple – 30 miles
Dirt-curious or new to dirt road/gravel riding? This is the route for you.

Classic Dirty Apple – 40 miles

We liked last year’s route so much we are keeping it in the mix this year but with small updates and beginning at the new start location.

Really Dirty Apple – 50 miles
This is our most popular route. Updated from 2017 to add 9 more beautiful miles. Challenging but avoids the worst hills.

Rotten to the Core – 60 miles

Our most intense route! Updated from 2017 to add more hills on dirt or questionably-maintained paved roads. We recommend this route for those who really, really like hills.

I will be there. I'm close enough that I could even ride to the start!

I’m cool with whatever. I haven’t been out much lately either.

Hey Voy, its about 6 miles from the Goldens Bridge station, nice road warm up! You might even get a ride back to the station afterward.

Indeed! I was sussing that out. Also just considering coaxing my excellent wife to join me for the drive and to go hike while I roll off into the sunrise.

I´ve ridden some of those roads up there (Waccabuc is just nuts), and was fine on 27c Open Paves and more or less ´traditional´gears: 53/39 with a 27t low end cog. But I was a lot stronger a year ago (toddler, early mornings, excuses).

Safest way (7.6 miles) from Goldens Bridge Metro North train station to Dirty Apple Ride start location:

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28700661

Avoids most of Route 35 which can be a busy road at times.
