Shimano 8000 frt der ?

I’m installing an older 8000 front derailleur and seem to have misplaced or lost the black plastic cover that goes on top that cable goes through
It doesn’t seem to have a purpose except to hide the cable
Do I even need to complete the install?

I only have limited experience installing a GRX FD, but in that case the purpose of that piece of plastic is purely aesthetic, it's no problem to forgo it.

Lost mine quite a while ago. It serves no purpose beyond aesthetics.

If you decide you want to replace the part, it’s available through most LBS (by special order through Shimano or a distributor) or online. It’s Shimano part number Y5ZS22000. I found it online for $3.99.

No, you don't need it to finish the install, but since it does finish things off, finding one would be good.
