My first real road bike was a Gitane Super Corsa full Campagnolo NR bike. I road that for at least 10 years before I sold it and got a newer ride.

First - 2011 Jamis Quest...Reynolds 631 Steel . Bought as a size 56cm frameset and built it up with a Tiagra groupset...so that was the "n" followed by many n+1's!

New $240.00 Schwinn World Voyager when I was 15 years old [1972]. Made in Japan ala Panasonic, Suntour bits. Upgrade to tubulars 2nd day.

Orange, chrome 1/2 fork and tail end. Stripped off the Orange to repaint, and the entire frame was chrome. So that's how I rolled it until I got my license... Sold it for insurance money for my 67 Olds Cutlass.

After a few years I missed my riding, Stopped @ Park Cycle Ridgefield, NJ. This LBS was my cycling Alma Mater, Home of the Paris Sport, Victors Sports/Fraysses connection.

Mike Fraysses sold me a custom 531 frame made in the back there, IIRC by Cuevas [the son]. The chrome chipped on the lug during headset install process, so they made the guy another.

I remember I paid 350.00 for the frame/fork all nice chrome with the flaw plating flake [small] on the HT lug.

My first ever build that wasn't a takedown repaint reassemble. Clearly I had not got the rear cable length right.

I have a pic of that, thus the diatribe, and yes, only tubulars needed apply:

How do you like your Jamis compared to the n+1 bikes that came after it?

It was a nice lively ride thanks to being steel, but sizing was the issue. It had a compact wheelbase which made it nimble, if not a bit squirrely and toe overlap was noticeable. In the end it was a size too big for me but it took me a few bikes to realize it. The stack is pretty high so you end up with a really upright riding position even with a slammed stem. A 54 would have fit better, but probably would have made the toe-overlap worse.

I didnt ride it long as a I got a Trek 1.1 that I rode for about a year and eventually got some steel vintage bikes (actually a lot...LOL). Currently my primary rides are an Emonda ALR Disc (54cm) and Merling Agilis (Med).

Overall, I would place the Jamis as being a bit springy, yet compliant. Its comfortable (if sized right) but can still be nimble.

There is/has been a 'L' floating off/on around PDX on the CraigsList on the Internets...

I looked at it late 2019 and grabbed a Ti Super Spectrum similarly priced instead.

Thank you for your detailed response. I too have a Jamis quest. It's definitely more suited for older folks who like to sit more upright because of their back or deteriorating flexibility. But the legendary magic carpet ride you get out of steel is unmistakable.
By the way, my current ride is also a Merlin Agilis (M/L). I love that bike!

I tried out for the road cycling team in undergrad on a borrowed bike and somehow made the team. I then had to go about finding a bike. I ended up with a Bianchi Giro from eBay with Shimano 105 triple. I raced on it for the first year and it served me very well, not to mention the countless training rides. Prior to that, I mostly rode and raced mountain bikes. I can even say it was before they had shocks.
