Bike beliefs you have learned are crap?

Mine is cable stretch......
Cables dont stretch the housings compress. At leats under the loads they see on a bike.

Whatcha got.......?

how spokes support the rim. The spokes at and adjacent to the contact patch support the rim by releasing tension as the rim deforms. still hurts to think about.

Older is better. I am a nostalgic person. Still love the music from my high school years (New Wave) and the top of the line frame material from then, which is when I got started racing (steel). Things advance for a reason. I still love a nice steel bike, but I spent a lot of time swimming against the stream when it wasn't necessary.
