De Rosa Primato - Value?

Hi, this is a 1994 Primato 57 that I’m thinking might be time to move on.

I’ve owned it since 2007 and had it painted and chromed by Joe Bell in 2014. The paint is still pristine, the pictures are poor quality but Joe is the best.

I’d likely strip it down and sell frame and fork. I’m just not sure about today’s market and desire for this era of frame.

Opinions are appreciated.

If it's a complete Campagnolo, period-correct bike it will probably be worth more as a complete bike than a frameset.
Depending on which series, the Delta brakes might be the most valuable part in the photo.
Looks like a sweet bike...if you don't need to sell it, don't. It will go on your list of bikes you wish you didn't sell.

From the current Pegoretti thread:

I own a 57 Neo Primato. Whenever I consider selling it (not riding the open roads any longer, have a couple of other wonderful road bikes, getting older, etc, etc) I take it out for a ride and… nope.

Is it a 56? If so, I don't think it's worth much at all. And we should talk.

Agree and those look like last gen, black boot, 5 pivot Deltas...BUT, it sure isn't 'period correct' with the rest of the group..11s?

It's stunning, and def a keeper.
But, if you are tired of it maybe put a modern Campagnolo groupset on it and some fast wheels. Tuck the vintage coponents away.
You will most likely fall in love with it again.

Either way good luck.

I have a friend that sold his 57 cm to one of his friends years ago and has regretted it ever since. He’s tried to buy it back, but the new owner loves it too much. I would be very interested in buying the frame and fork for him .

This is the way.

A pretty lugged frame with tastefully selected modern parts is :chef's kiss:

Agree with the 'don't sell' sentiment. I've got a ~'91 Primato and it's one of the most fun to ride bikes I've got.

FWIW, my friend sold his beautiful Mica White Frame/fork about 10 years ago for $700. I bought my NOS f/f for $600 in 2009.

In spite of a Joe Bell redo, it's not original, but probably looks better. The head tube decal is, obviously, not correct.

No idea what they are worth now, but my Primato's will be the last bikes I sell.

I had a Neo Primato that I sold here ~10 years ago for ~$1300. Probably worth more but I didn't need two road bikes that never got ridden.

If selling complete

Replace the Delta brakes with other Campagnolo brakes and sell the Delta's for at least $250

Ooh my size but I’m pretty happy as is with my ‘86 Pro. DeRosa is one of those vintage steels that can still command a good price. I’d look through eBay sold prices to see what you could get there. I might try $1000 for frame fork but might have to settle for $700-800.

I think I spy a Centaur shifter. I have the Athena 11 compact crank on a Campy 10 drive train and it has worked out well.
