A few things. Returning it was the only viable option. And that's all I have to say about that.

wow, that's unbelievable. i could totally understand if it was a general pawn shop that sold that frame, but for a dedicated bicycle retailer to be so negligent in packing really doesnt make any sense whatsoever. i wonder what they have to say internally about that? to have a nice frame completely destroyed for saving maybe 20 minutes of time for an experienced packer is hard to justify.
oh well, at least it was a stock frame, not some one-of-a-kind handbuilt gem.

similar experience here
I bought a TIME frame from well known Australian shop that arrived in a thin bubble wrap bag loose inside a frame box. The stem box was tossed in there as well. Thankfully, it was unscathed!
It is frustrating that buyers have to go to great lengths to ensure these kind of purchases are delivered properly. Hope this is resolved in your favor! |

That kind of packaging is unforgivable. How is that even possible?

Wow, that is disgusting. That's, what, a $7000 msrp frame? Unbelievable.
Lionel probably has the other one they were selling... Wonder if his showed up in one piece. |

It's only bikes - can't get too mad.. Pretty inexcusable for a global brand though - the shop that is - and I'll be sending a note to Pinarello when this is all done. I expect I'll get my money back and all that, just sucks when you are excited for a limited-edition frameset and have already bought parts for it.

I wonder what level of damage a metal frame frame would incur with the same force inputs. NOT asking this to be provocative, steel is real, etc. Would the stays be dented?

I have received a poorly packed steel bike and had some dents here and there, tons of paint scratches. Was still rideable of course. With carbon, you have to pack it even better, carbon is super strong but a localized hit will do bad damage.

The frame isn't as tall as the box, so how did it get crushed without the box getting crushed? I don't think I mentioned, but there were labels on the box from it having been sent to Japan and returned to the UK in 2019. Maybe it was broken outside the box, returned, never inspected, and sold/shipped to me... In any event, no excuse for sending a frame like this just wrapped in plastic and nothing else. It's worse than the worst I've received off of eBay. |

I bet it was damaged before it was shipped (to you).

Just dropped in a way the high Gs happened in non intended direction for the structure perhaps, or a few drops.
I have had eBay feedback on stuff I have sold that commented on how long it took to unpack. Loose in the box is stupid unprofessional at the lowest level, I guess I didn't need to point out. Who was the boxer/shipper, so I can make sure to avoid always??
