In this as in much else, it's being true to yourself that counts. If you are trying to be hip or thinking the artist is trying to be hip, the bike won't work emotionally. If the bike has a paint scheme you like to step back and admire, because you "get" what the artist was delivering or the bike reflects your idea and the artist got that just right, nothing else matters.

Fine art on my bike? Absolutely. I had a lesser Frans Hals that just wasn't working in the living room anymore so I used it to recover an old Aliante saddle that still had some life in it.

Kidding.

Paint your frame however you like, it will be 'you'. If you think you may sell the bike in the future, remember that what you think looks good, to a potential buyer it may look like.....needs a paint job.
I go for unpainted when I have the option.

If you're thinking resale, you bought the wrong frame.

Stella please don't cop a 'tude'. What are you trying to imply? You have never got bored with your old ride? Never wanted to upgrade? I have NEVER bought a bike thinking of selling it in the future, but like anything new after awhile the luster fades and you may be tempted to look elsewhere.

My Merlin is as good as when I got her (good ti lasts forever) but, after 5 years my eye started to wander, now I have a new Ottrot in the garage waiting to be built up and ridden this spring. Having too many bikes as it is and the garage starting to overflow with them, the thought of moving some of them out IS crossing my mind. Since I don't ride trash the thought of giving them away is a little selfish on my part, so selling is the other option.
I know for a fact what color a bike is can be the difference between a sale and "no thanks".

The question here was about wild or exotic paint jobs. Ferrari red is a good color, not wild or particularly exotic, more in the safe zone for paint. But I have never seen an aftermarket paint job that could compare with what the builder would put on. Custom means "for you" and that is what I said. I wasn't downing anybodies bike, to each his own. I just have seen too many people trying to sell whatever with custom paint schemes that they put on, and think that they are going to get more for it because of the custom paint.
The opposite is usually the case.

A true work of art on a bike like the rivendale should be put on a wall. It is just too pretty to ride and scuff up.

No attitude.. If you're thinking resale you bought the wrong frame. No matter what drawn out reply you wanna post.

I'm really late to the party on these Colnago futuras, but just read that there was a road version prototype.

I like the paint, but would swap the wheels and some other bits (as well as the price tag) and ride the heck out of it before hanging it on a wall.

UK artist Mark Dobson did this frame for a client. I've done more than one hand drawn/painted frames.

Subjective to the nth degree.

I have a nude Look 585 stealthed out to a Mongrel Lynskey Pro CX with overly colorful vinyl cleared over for a gravel steed and orange tires.

Life is a canvas, maybe your bikes too!

To each their own et al.

Its hard to generalize but sometimes stuff just falls into place even tho it should not in theory.

i like this for example even tho i perhaps would not pay big money for something similar.
