Hooray for Hollywood
LA has 3 buildings by Pritzker Prize winners in a 4 block area. We rode by them (not appearing in flickas below)
 As Seen in Inception    As Seen at the Academy Awards from 1969 to 1999  As Seen in Hundreds of Car Commercials  New Federal Courthouse in DTLA The design of the truss system was inspired by the results of topology optimization iterations, evaluated for efficiency using Maxwell’s theorem of load paths. This optimization is similar to the optimal layout proposed by Michell’s work on frames of least weight, or Michell trusses, which represent the stiffest layouts for the least amount of material in a continuum. SOM’s final truss geometry, which resembles a bicycle wheel, resulted in a 13 percent reduction in total steel weight for the trusses compared to traditional configurations.     Thanks for reading! day did not go as planned.
started off with a 6AM wheels up time with a century in mind. Torrential downpour and thunderstorms, worse than i have ridden in ensued. Enough standing water that i definitely submerged the BB in a few areas on the road. learned later that there were "flash flood" warning all around - ummm, confirmed. gave up after 2.5 hours of that. Once you're wet, you're wet, but what really convinced me to seek shelter was the very frequent, and seemingly close lightening strikes. scarey stuff. only pic i took at the dry roll-out. didnt dare take out a camera in the deluge.

Riding in Provence, we got caught in the big storm that swept through southern France causing massive flash flooding. An hour after this photo things turned very very ugly as we ascended into those dark clouds.

Last week I did my annual pilgrimage to Santa Cruz. For variation I wanted to do the well known Tunitas Creek/Old La Honda Road loop starting in Pescadero -- mapped out a route then pdmtong offered some outstanding refinements and insider dope on snacks, water, etc.
Photo is from the initial part of Stage Road, one of those refinements. Great route, highly recommend.  IMG_1733 by cgolvin, on Flickr

A big storm came by the area an hour ago, so I decided to ride the Swiss Army Knife bike to cater for all sorts of contingency. Brought along my new Gore Tex Shakedry rain jacket, thinking i might need it if another intermittent storm come by again but in the end stayed dry for the whole ride.

Rainy weekend here but managed to get out for good a ride and stay dry.

Been down in the Ocean City, MD area for a week now, one more week left.
Most days consist of an early morning 40-50 mile ride, the a swim in the Sinepuxent Bay with the dogs. Quick to the pool then hot tub then shower, then my wife heads to the beach for the next couple hours. A shy 250 miles logged for week one...
