A local Junior's mom altered all their kits in multiple ways. Although she pretends to struggle with technology she admitted that she just looked at YouTube videos on how to alter stuff and altered it all. Two sons plus her husband ride. The kits fit really well. At some point I overheard the son ask the mom about a flapping neck something and she said she'd take care of it. That's when I learned she altered everything. She used the same expanding seam thread pattern thing (the zigzag thing). I have no idea what it's called, the different threading patterns.

Her son in the middle.

Tailoring Cycling Kit?

Hey Gino,

Sucks that you’re not able to alternate your gillet.

I’m thinking of taking all my LS Rapha jerseys having the sleeves hemmed by this shop: http://www.sczgr.com/

When inquiring, he responded it depends on how the garment is constructed. Judging on the jerseys I have, the construction seems fairly straight forward.

Have you tried a different brand? I’ve hear the PNS fits even more slimmer than Rapha’s pro line.

You would think so, wouldn't you.

My one experience was buying Endura thermal 3/4 bibknicks and needing a tailor to shorten the straps considerably. In the scheme of things I picked them up, paid for them, put them in my shoulder bag without examining the work, then got them out the next morning to wear on my commute... it took me a while in an early morning bleary eyed kinda way to discover the straps had been neatly sewn back-to-back and front-to-front. ***?

I agree.

As a "slipping past middle-age" guy who doesn't ride in winter and who's gym shut down last spring, I think this thread should be locked.

Not me vvvvv. (at least not yet)

dancewear seamstress/tailor

You want a dancewear seamstress/tailor. They are used to working with Lycra/Spandex/elastane/powerstretch/wuteva.

The zig zag stitch you're talking about is built to stretch in four directions.

Anyone have experience shortening bib shorts?

They are almost invariably too long for me. I am not so bothered if this necessitates messing with the gripper, but I am curious how tailoring like this holds up over time.

I own a PNS kit in XXS and it the best fitting kit I own. I have looked at the stow away vest, but it seems a bit light and barebones. I have owned lighter “breathable” vests like that before and at least in my experience they don’t keep me as warm as I’d like.

Regardless, I have been willing to give it a try, but it has been out of stock for a few months now in XXS in the colors I am willing to wear. I even signed up for the “notify me when in-stock” email.

I had the folks at Kucharik replace the leg bands in my champion systems team kits with wider ones for me. The bibs fit fine everywhere else but the leg grippers were uncomfortably tight for me. They removed the stock pieces and installed longer ones that fit much better. That was in 2014 and I'm still riding those bibs now - fantastic work. Based on the extent of the alteration they did for me and where, I don't see why they couldn't shorten them at the same time. Drop them a line. They were super easy to work with, reasonably priced and the turn around time was fast.
