I love cycling out here. I live in Echo Park and can hop on my bike and get to Elysian Park or Griffith park within 5-10 minutes. Mt. Washington is close as well, and it's such a great climb on a deep neighborhood road. There are a ton of cycling clubs out here. I dropped in on a few rides and found some people who were my speed, both literally and figuratively. Since your job is right by the expo line, a hybrid commute of bike and train should be fairly easy. Though my wife rides from Echo Park to Venice on her e-bike once a week or so for some appointments. She's found that it takes pretty much the same time to ride to the train station and take the train as it does to just ride the whole way. L.A. feels weird. I came from Indianapolis to the Bay Area to L.A. Like people have said, L.A. is really 50 small town that all got smooshed together as they all grew. It's not like most other cities which started in one place and just got bigger and bigger. Because of this, it can be jarring when travelling through the sprawl and spread. It took me about two years until I really felt comfortable operating in the larger world of L.A. Good luck! |
