You'd think that with an initial backing of six (6) people total, and only $1,269 of a $260,517 goal the first time around, they'd get the hint.

edit: Maybe it's a bad idea, maybe it's a bad idea because it only comes in one length, or maybe it's both.

And also if you really do need a charger, an anker battery will do the job and it can easily be zip tied to a stem of your choice. Still probably look better than this NRG monstrosity!

Exactly. And can be only brought on rides when needed instead of carrying this heavy monstrosity on every ride.

Crazy that people think cycling needs this.

Also I was thinking, this has so much missing opportunities.

You already have a battery why not put a built in light on that stem? Now you at least have something that is always usable. Then it would make sense for a commuter bike. Always have a light and can charge stuff on way to work.

I for one applaud this.

I ride with a camera and a cell phone.
Action cams are notorious for having low battery capacity.
iPhone batteries - enuff said.

Been riding with a lipstick shaped USB battery pack strapped to the stem which looks like crap. Not a lot of options out there for battery packs that you can strap to your stem.

Now migrating to a top tube bag that will store a bigger battery pack but there really aren't a lot of well designed TT bags on the market.

You gotta start somewhere. I think they've done a great job to integrate this. Not outrageously priced. It'll be refined with successive iterations.

Tucking the battery into the stem is a tidy solution - but you'd need to produce these in a range of different lengths and angles. Maybe a better solution would be a tidy module that can be cleanly mounted to the bottom of your existing stem - perhaps a a tear drop shaped enclosure with a curved top surface to mate with the bottom of the stem, secured with a thin stainless steel strap wrapping around the top of the stem. Then you could use any size/angle stem you wanted.

I've got a Bontrager Adventure Top Tube bag that IMO is quite nice looking and very functional. It will fit 6 SIS gels plus a small multitool and chapstick, for reference.
