Apparently, this wind tunnel has been on sale for a while. Here's a thread from Slowtwitch from about a year and a half ago (when it was for sale on craig's list).

https://forum.slowtwitch.com/forum/S...ng%3F_P6911266

According to the thread, the HED never actually set it up, and it's been in crates since HED bought it 8 years ago.

This is a moving road wind tunnel, which better simulates ground effect (and in general, the aerodyamics of anything moving close to the ground, such as bicycle wheels). As far as I'm aware, moving road wind tunnels haven't been used for bicycle aero testing.

Actually the A2 Wind Tunnel in North Carolina has been used by Felt, Blue and others and has a rolling road style setup. They have had many pros and amateurs go in for fittings as well. Blue had an offer for someone who bought a high end Blue tri bike, they gave the buyer a fitting in the wind tunnel.

If this is the former wind tunnel of the same Swift Engineering that designed race cars, that’s pretty cool too.

Plus you can regularly buy old Swift cars to test in the tunnel for ~20k, far less than 500k: https://www.apexspeed.com/forums/sho...ift-DB-1-Honda

Though probably more fun to take on the track.

The A2 low speed wind tunnel is popular for bicycle testing, but it does not have a rolling road. The photo below is from the Rally Cycling team testing, and it can be seen that there is no rolling road (A rolling road is basically a giant treadmill, moved at the same speed as the air, to eliminate ground effects).

Tunnel Speed: 40mph to 140mph
Isn’t this lower speed limit too high For bicycles or am I missing something?
